Mesa was in the process of repainting this from American Eagle service to another carrier when American Eagle reversed itself and decided they wanted it back in the fleet. Note "patch out" paint.
Again a tribute to the civilian biplanes, which are almost forgotten nowadays.
Originally designed as a reconnaissance aircraft, Deutsche Flugzeug-Werke DFW C.V and Aviatik C.VI, used during WWI, a further development resulted in three three aircraft designated F37 in the closing stages of the war. One broke the world altitude record in 1919 and after this exploit, this F37 was converted into a passenger "limousine" by the addition of a richly upholstered interior and a canopy to enclose it.
Now designated the DFW P1 Limousine, it could carry three passengers and was demonstrated by DFW at the ELTA exhibition in Amsterdam in 1919, flying passengers.
