Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has forgiven the man who hit him on the head with a camera tripod and invited his attacker to visit him in Rome.

Berlusconi's supporters said his decision to forgive the 28-year-old Italian bricklayer was a show of magnanimity but some opponents wondered if it was a bid to improve his popularity.

Roberto Dal Bosco hurled his tripod at the politician on New Year's Eve as he was strolling through Rome's famous Piazza Navona. Berlusconi suffered a minor injury behind his right ear.

After first telling reporters he did it "because I hate him", Dal Bosco wrote a letter to the tycoon politician saying he had acted in a moment of "deplorable euphoria".

Berlusconi then called Dal Bosco, who lives near the northern city of Mantua and is a supporter of the main left-wing opposition party, to say he would not press charges.

Family of Dal sheep mom and her lambs near Anchorage, Alaska. We spotted these animals as we driving the Seward highway. We pulled over and spent about half hour observing their behavior and taking photographs. They have unbelievable footing in those precarious mountain tops (even the lambs).
