The lure of the Smart Grid appears irresistible. If Smart Grids can realize their full potential then consumers, utilities, nations, and even the earth itself will benefit. Unfortunately, as with nearly any new technology, the focus has been on getting Smart Grids up and running, often with little consideration for Cyber Security.
A SCUSA Round Table discussion on China in one of 15 Round Table discussions presented to student delegates and USMA Cadets. Students from roughly 120 colleges and universities and U.S. Military Academy cadets attended the 67th annual Student Conference on U.S. Affairs Nov. 4-7 at West Point. The theme for this year's conference is "Confronting Inequality: Wealth, Rights and Power." Students attended two days of round table discussions on various topics such as Europe: Common Defense, Disjointed Security, Middle East: Gamble of Democracy, Global Economic Inequality and Cyber Warfare: Cooperation Under the Cybersecurity Dilemma. At the end of the conference, student delegates and cadets will write a policy paper with the best published in the Undergraduate Journal of Social Science.

Sophia is a cybersecurity software tool that helps protect energy sector networks and control systems. INL developed it as an easy, elegant way to help network operators detect intruders and other anomalies. Developers demonstrate its capabilities in the Computer-Assisted Virtual Environment (CAVE) within the Center for Advanced Energy Studies at INL.
