More than a dozen Idaho Army National Guard Soldiers participated in the National Guard’s Cyber Shield 20 exercise Sept 12-27, 2020. Members of Idaho’s Defense Cyber Operations Element were among nearly 600 Soldiers from more than 40 states who participated in the two-week training event. The defensively focused tactical annual cyber exercise was hosted virtually this year and gave Idaho Soldiers the chance to develop and use their cyber defense skills while building key relationships with the state’s Office of Information Technology Services, its mission partner, during the exercise. In Sept., cyber response specialists from both countries met again in Croatia as part of an ongoing discussion of cyber operations. During the second day of the conference, the Minnesota National Guard Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Richard C. Nash stopped by to observe a tabletop exercise, which utilized real-world examples of cyber attacks. The adjutant general was in Croatia to meet with Maj. Gen. Dragutin Repinc and other Croatian leaders at various locations across Croatia to discuss defense security goals and capabilities between the Minnesota National Guard and Croatian Armed Forces.
