White muslin quilt label, 3" x 2", using Monotype Corsiva font and brown thread. The customer wanted to sew it to the back of a crocheted afghan, so a back was added to hide the embroidery stitches.
This was one of those special orders that come at the right time in life, reminding me that it always has something beautiful to offer, even when everything around seems dark.
The challenge came in the form of a cover for a photo album, a special gift from a group of people who dedicate their work to the recovery of Iberian lynxes, to a colleague who was about to leave. This couple of lynxes was very special and, in addition to their interesting characteristics, both physical and of personality, they reminded me of other times in my life path, and also my love for nature, the countryside, and flowers.
Days after I started planning this work, Linho had the accident that broke his hip, and my world shook. Suddenly, what would have been an interesting challenge in itself, turned into a therapeutic work, which kept me focused in the most difficult moments, brought me the emotional comfort of tactile contact with the materials, and the support of who commissioned me, as if validating that this type of job is not only about beauty and moments of peace, but also about our shadows, our fears, anguish and pain, and that this only enriches what our hands produce, because it transforms within us. These "big kitties" were like lucky charms for everything my "little big cat" had been through. I put my whole soul into them during those days of recovery and dedication. The result was a book cover full of details and texture, which the photos cannot show.

In het kader van 'Doe waar je blij van wordt' schilder ik dit hele weekend in mijn atelier. Geen verplichtingen of geen feestjes! Lekker schilderen daar wordt ik gelukkig van en daar maak ik de wereld een stukje mooier mee. Een nieuwe uitdaging voor mijn expositie 'Sterren op 't Doek'. Wie? Dat is de vraag en voor mij een weet!
I've been doing a lot of spindle spinning lately, which is a bit of a surprise because up till now I've been sort of meh about spindling. Suddenly something clicked in January and I am racing (relative term, here) through a bunch of small bits in my stash, spinning them on a small collection of spindles.
This little sample is half spun, about 1.1 oz of a Wild Hare Fiber Studio batt made for me as a prize for a winning photo posted to Ravelry during Tour de Fleece last summer. When asked what I wanted, I specified two things: blues, and not too much sparkle. This is perfect. It's a blend of Merino, Silk, Other Wool, Angelina, Firestar, Tencel and Mohair. It's been carded just enough to blend but not so much that the different colors completely merge.
I'm having a blast spinning this on my little Bosworth Pau Amarilla and now that I'm half way through, I can't decide on whether to navajo ply or go with a traditional 2 ply. I have the other half to spin while I decide, though I am leaning toward navajo ply, which seems to be my other obsession lately.
