FRAGILE, BROKEN, WET - Thanks Hermes.
I rarely get angry but I am today.
HERMES - "Messenger of the Gods with winged shoes"
The Hermes Courier dropped a parcel clearly marked "FRAGILE" over a locked rear gate. The gate is 2 metres high.
The parcel landed on the concrete patio slabs in the rain, bounced and did not survive the 2 metre drop.
What part of "FRAGILE" did the courier not understand?
It was also raining, so the parcel and contents were soaked.
The Hermes Courier politely told me on the card "Your parcel was delivered OVER THE GATE". Cheers Bud. Insult to injury springs to mind.
The highly coloured warning tape marked "FRAGILE" clearly was not legible or relevant to the Hermes courier.
I need a large coffee with lots of caffeine and several deep breaths.
Customer Service clearly not a high priority in this case.
Nothing left to go wrong on this one.
The situation is so incredibly stupid, deeply frustrating and time wasting for so many people to put it right, you have to laugh at it.
Life really is stranger than fiction.

I have been promised a refund by the seller. I hope they claim back from Hermes.
I haven’t been on Flickr for a little while because work kept me on the road. But one of those trips did inspire this photo of how I felt about Ryanair's customer service.
I knew the trip was not going to be easy then I pulled up at the barrier of the short stay carpark at Stansted airport, only for it not to recognise my registration number. Having got the long queue of cars behind me to do the backward shuffle, I finally managed to use the intercom, only to be told there was no record of my booking. Not a good start. And it got worse. Having sorted the car, and getting past security, I made into a very busy departure lounge. No time for food as my flight for Frankfurt was due to take off at 7pm… so straight off the to Gate 86 for me, where I was told to join the queue of passengers waiting to board. Unfortunately, the ground staff were oblivious to the fact that there was no plane at the stand. I think they were too busy checking no “non priority” passengers were sneaking in the “priority” line. After 30 mins of waiting for nothing to happen, the Ryanair people finally acknowledged what we were trying to tell them – there was no bloody plane to board! If only Ryanair issued them the same flight tracking apps we, the lowly passengers, were using, they would have known the inbound flight had not even left Frankfurt yet. Eventually, we were ordered to go back to the departure lounge. At least this gave me time to grab a bite to eat. About three hours later, we were called back to Gate 86… this time with a jet waiting for us. Having finally settled in my seat, safety briefing done, I waited for take-off. And I waited. And so did everyone else. Prompted by loud shouts of “Please tell us some information” by multiple irate Germans, the tannoy kicked into life. “This is your captain speaking. I am sorry that we have been delayed again, but they have given me the wrong flight plans and we cannot depart until the paperwork has been sorted”. At some time around midnight we were in the air and heading to Frankfurt International Airport. Or so I thought. It turns out that because of all the delays we were being rerouted to another airport, where coaches would be waiting to take us on the 1 hr 20 min journey to Frankfurt. To kick us in the teeth, Ryanair wished us “a pleasant evening”. We arrive at about 3.20am to find three taxis ready to ferry the 200 passengers to their next destination. Luckily, my hotel was close, so I walked the mile and got to my room at 3.45am. At 7am next day I had to leave to get to the train station. When I got there, I found that bad weather the night before had caused massive travel disruptions and there were long queues at all the ticket counters. Luckily, I was warned to not even bother, “If they do sell you a ticket, there will not be room on the train and they will not let you on”. These were the words of my boss who was on the train I was hoping to catch. A €150 taxi journey later, I arrived at my meeting. My boss arrived one-and-half hours late.
The return journey was less eventful… apart from the obligatory one-and-half hour delay from Ryanair, accompanied by no information or updates to help me plan (e.g. could I afford to take the risk and make the long trek from the gate to the nearest food outlet? I didn’t.) I eventually got home at 10pm. And that cold beer, fresh out of the fridge, never tasted so good. But I did not raise a glass to toast Ryanair. I know I cannot blame them for everything… but I can expect them to do the simple thing and keep me (and their ground staff) informed.
This photo was taken from the bus where we were waiting (reoccurring theme, here?) for Ryanair staff finish chatting and let us on the plane. Somewhere during this enforced pause, I came up with the “customer care” concept for this photo.

My BT telephone landline developed a fault which prevented any calls getting through.
I did not know there was a fault on the line as the phone just wasn't ringing.
I contacted BT via the internet and chose the option to "Chat with a Support Assistant" as this service is advertised as being available 7 days a week from 8am to 7:45 pm.
Except when you ring at 13:13 on the 13th when the service is clearly not available.
The curse of unlucky 13 lives on and I still have the fault on my landline.
A really unusual timing of the call which was 100% unplanned as I just happened to deal with this during my lunch hour.

Just before christmas while packing away my camera gear in the dark, one of my filter holder locking clips departed company while being removed from my camera.
However, it wasn't until the next day when I was setting up to use it again that I noticed only the spring and pin were there, which promptly fell on the pebble beach!! I spent about 15 mins searching for them and also the clip before realising the clip must have fell off the night before. I managed to recover the pin and spring, and then shot using my other filter holder.
Just before new year I emailed LEE Filters explaining what happened and that I now had a holder that was useless, and did they sell the spares.
They replied saying they would send me a replacement FOC, as a good will gesture. This arrived today, well done and thank you LEE Filters!!
While waiting for it to come I've ordered another (spare) from a Dorset company, so I know they aren't mega expensive and that you can source them, BUT....it all comes down to 'Customer Service'!!

The contemporary way of communication in the Efteling. Designer Anton Pieck (19 April 1895 – 24 November 1987) who died more than 30 years ago never could imagine what this sign was about. Social media like Facebook, Messenger, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat were nonexistent. Anton Pieck never wanted the Python in 'his' park as well, but the opening of Python transformed De Efteling from a playground with some fairytales to one of the most important themeparks in Europe and even in the world.
De Efteling
The Efteling is a fantasy-themed amusement park in Kaatsheuvel in the Netherlands. The attractions are based on elements from ancient myths and legends, fairy tales, fables, and folklore.
The park was opened in 1952. It has since evolved from a nature park with a playground and a Fairytale Forest into a full-sized theme park. It now caters to both children and adults with its cultural, romantic, and nostalgic themes, in addition to its wide array of amusement rides.
It is the largest theme park in the Netherlands and one of the oldest theme parks in the world. It is twice as large as the original Disneyland park in California and antedates it by three years. Annually, the park has nearly 5 million visitors. In 2016, it was the third most visited theme park in Europe, behind Disneyland Paris and Europa-Park. Over the years, it has received over 125 million visitors.
