The lacquer on this horn is original.
Buescher offered two lacquer options, "clear" and "gold". This horn has been finished with the clear lacquer, which was transparent but did not lack color, it tinted yellow. The gold lacquer was opaque rather than transparent and tinted a brighter golden yellow color.

Buescher introduced the "Aristocrat Custom Built" line as its top model. The first Custom Built models were fitted with nickel-silver trim, bracing, and tubing; some of the premium features that set the model apart from the regular Aristocrat model.
Nickel silver is more durable and harder to damage than regular brass, so it's a good bracing material. It also resists corrosion better than brass and so is good for use in valve and tuning slides.
The receiver is a particularly good place to use nickel-silver; sometimes you see Buescher horns fitted with nickel-silver receivers or lead-pipe assemblies.
This one needed that; there are spots of red-rot all along the leadpipe. The patches on the leadpipe are probably repairs to the leadpipe where the red-rot had eaten through the metal. The red-rot stops at the nickel-silver crook - that's one reason nickel-silver's a valuable feature!
