Renovation of the original edifice called for more than 400 custom replacement windows, many requiring unique design solutions including custom panning systems and replication details. Custom Charles Street panning was used throughout, covering weathered sills and jambs with a maintenance-free extruded aluminum surface and providing a unifying look throughout the three original wings.
Tempered direct-glaze Round Top windows, almost 82” wide and 117” high, evoke the arches of a traditional monastic walkway and allow the sisters an unencumbered view of their peaceful courtyard. Low-E II with Argon gas glazing lets the light in during Nashville’s cool winters, yet filters out rays from the hot summer sun. Several of the “angel-wing” windows can be seen across the courtyard.

The new chapel, large enough to hold the entire congregation plus guests, features Marvin direct-glaze Round Top windows (echoed by the larger arches that frame them). Stained glass in the same German style as the convent’s original chapel windows will be installed into the Marvin Round Top frames.

The windows have been installed, but before that we had to install all new insulation (some areas had none). No trim around windows and all landscaping, and driveway had to be removed.
