A tough as nails straight bar street machine. Features Shimano Alfine Groupset including 8 speed internal rear hub, hand built wheels including Mavic 319 hubs. Topeak super tourist luggage rack, Marathon Dureme tires.
Many thanks to my man Dave for commissioning this amazing bike. He has good style and allowed for us at Old World Bicycle to make some suggestions to give this machine is particular patina.
Dave works with CPS while they reinsert recess into the school day agenda. Dave we say thank you for educating Chicago's youth about the importance of being active and athletic. We are proud to have put this bike together for him & to do so to his specs with what we salvaged scraped, & gathered together to provide the most fashionable transport this city will allow. We hope to help inspire the good old fashion American spirit chalked full of hard work, elbow grease and a particular stubbornness that arose from our ancestors desire to build a better tomorrow at any cost. We were wrong a lot but kept growing, innovating, & evolving regardless of the obstacles that may arise. Because that is exactly what it took to bring this 40 + years old french road bike to its current state.
Details:
--Mid to early 1970's Motobecane road frame 54c
--700c mismatched fixed/flip flop Wheelset
--The frame was wire wheeled to bare metal and gun blued (gum bluing is a chemical process used to prevent corrosion on a variety of guns, mostly shot guns and rifles)
--Worn Brooks Saddle
--Aluminum stem and drop bars w/ signature OWB rubber tube wrap kept tight as the grips.
--exposed old chain Saddle retainer to ward petty thieves away from that beautiful saddle
This tough bicycle drips of cool and simply chuckles at the notion that it is anymore than what it is. Keep throwing challenges our way folks we put out great bikes over here and we thank you for the guidance.
Thanks to the crew.
Scottie “the out of work mechanic" for wire wheeling that ancient European paint off this well made and timeless hunk of high tensil steel. "Bubba" for hand sanding and applying the first two coats of Gun Blue. "Dick" for finalizing the gun bluing process and oiling the frame. I also want to say thanks to our neighbor bike shops for stocking what we need during our development stages.
With pleasure,
Skip Tooth
& the Old World Bicycle folks
We built up this custom Long Haul Trucker for Paul in Perth. He needed a setup for doing a 'lap' around Austrlalia. This is a bombproof setup for touring. Features Schmidt SON 28 Dynamo, Supernova E3 front light, Supernova rear light, Brooks Saddle, Tubus rear rack, Surly Nice Front Rack, Pletscher Double Kickstand, Stem Captain (thermometer), Busch and Muller E-Werk - for charging an iPhone, BOB Ibex trailer, Ortlieb Sportpacker plus panniers, DT Swiss Alpine III spokes, Mavic XM519 rims , Marathon Dureme Tires. We also brazed on the mount for the front Supernova light, this is a more sturdy position and better location for touring setups.
My own recreation of the iconic house from the film "Coraline" in Lego. Submitted to Lego Ideas for consideration in producing a commercially available set.
