One of my favorite designers and illustrators for the past several decades has been the wonderful John Van Hammersveld. His unique style has adorned everthing from buses to album covers to posters including the iconic surf poster for the classic 60s film "The Endless Summer", which 45 years after it was released, is still in print and still a cool poster. That's really saying something! And he's still going strong. I highly recommend you look up his work online and get on his email list. The man is still at work creating amazing posters and designs.
Anyway I recently saw a drawing of John's that I had never seen before of a divided Mickey Mouse face and in the midst of a recent bunch of toys I was painting I thought it was a perfect opportunity to pay homage to Mr. V so here it is, I have sort of recreated Mr. V's drawing idea in 3D on a vinyl toy and added my own touches.

.....on the Quay, Poole in Dorset.
The Customs House was built in the 18th Century, prior to that a Coffee House was on the site. Outside the Custom House is a replica of the Staplecross or Town Beam which dated from the 15th Century.
Every year there is a ceremony from the Custom House Steps. The Admiral of the Port of Poole and other dignitaries set sail to points in the harbour thereby confirming the Mayor's authority over the water boundaries of the harbour. The Ceremony is known as "Beating of the water bounds." This dates back to the 14th Century.
These days it is a restaurant.
It stands on the oldest part of the Quay or 'Great Quay' as it is called on old maps. Archaeological excavations under this area have revealed a thick layer of oyster shells. It is believed that a thousand years ago fishermen used the shore as a centre for an oyster fishery, leaving millions of shells that became buried under later reclamation.
In medieval times the Great Quay was surrounded by large stone buildings of which only the Town Cellars remain.

Poole is a large coastal town and seaport in the county of Dorset, on the south coast of England. Human settlement in the area dates back to before the Iron Age. The earliest recorded use of the town’s name was in the 12th century when the town began to emerge as an important port, prospering with the introduction of the wool trade. In later centuries the town had important trade links with North America and at its peak in the 18th century it was one of the busiest ports in Britain. During the Second World War the town was one of the main departing points for the D-Day landings of the Normandy Invasion.
Poole is a tourist resort, attracting visitors with its large natural harbour, history, the Lighthouse arts centre and Blue Flag beaches. The town has a busy commercial port with cross-Channel freight and passenger ferry services. The headquarters of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) are located in Poole, and the Royal Marines have a base in the town's harbour. Despite their names, Poole is the home of The Arts University Bournemouth, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and a significant part of Bournemouth University.

My last girl of 2017 is here!!! She's actually been waiting for her turn to shine since November, but we were waiting for the rest of her eye chips, so she's happy to be awake and ready to fly back home to New York.
Her base doll is a Simple Bubble Boom FBL, she has 1 pair of handpainted eye chips by me and 3 pairs of Puppelina eye chips. Her mom mentioned her favorite pattern is gray background with white polka dots, so I decided to add a little accent heart to match her hair as well.
She was made with lots of love so I hope you love her, and I hope she brings her momma lots of joy!

Custom Sackboy modified to look like Daft Wullie, a Nac Mac Feegle from Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels. Feegles are 6" tall fairy folk who love nothing more than fighting, stealing, and getting drunk.

Dublin's imposing Custom House was completed in 1791. However, merely nine years later, the Act of Union ended Ireland's self-rule and transferred its customs and excise authority to London, rendering the building obsolete.
In 1921, following Ireland's declaration of independence, Sinn Féin celebrated their victory by setting the building alight as they saw it a symbol of 700 years of British imperalism and oppression. The fire blazed for five days. Re-construction began in 1926, though the building was not fully restored and re-opened until 1991.
my lovely custom came from Japan yesterday! Her name is Georgie.., just gave her some French braids...
