La luminosidad anaranjada del ocaso.

CIENFUEGOS.

Fox Cub, New Jersey

Cambridgeshire Fens

This first year cub was taking a rest in the mid-afternoon. I had posted this earlier, but corrected for a blue color cast. I think it a better photo now. Thanks to frangipani for his input and suggestion

saw this young coyote walking by himself in the grasses at Arastradero Preserve

Even though her cub is getting older, there still is a strong attachment to mom. We couldn't see this cub from the front which is evidence of the size of the mother.

This cub is first out most evenings , sits on the hill and surveys her surroundings

Snow leopard (Panthera uncia or Uncia uncia), also called ounce, is a carnivore that inhabits the mountainous regions of central Asia and the Indian subcontinent.

Its litters of two to four young are born after a gestation period of approximately 93 days.

Snow leopards have pretty long tails. About 80 – 100 cm in length as against its body length of 48 – 60 cm.

The snow leopard uses its bushy tail to keep balance when it jumps.

The tail allows the leopard to maneuver rather quickly.

The leopard uses its tail as a blanket when it is asleep, it wraps the tail around their body.

The snow leopard population is estimated to be only a few thousand animals, and the species is thus considered endangered.

A tightly cropped shot of this adorable white-phase black bear cub seen a few years ago.

It had rained hard all night and was chilly. Not sure how old she was but she was tiny. That dark color behind her is mother, so she was close by. I spent quite awhile watching them from a safe distance. Felt so bad for her, as she was cold and miserable. Mom was busy eating so she could better feed them but kept her eye on them as they explored and played. Best bear experience of my life.

I was pleased later to find reports and pictures of this family on line. Was concerned whether they survived. Last report they are fine and looking good. Relieved.

Have a wonderful weekend!

A cub in wonderful sunlight. Enjoying the sun!

This wonderful Grizzly mother was watching us, but we weren't a threat to her or her cub.

This 2 year old cub wasn't worried or very interested in us.

This is an image from a trip to Yellowstone a few years ago. With Yellowstone, it takes a few days or longer to get a sense of what is going on with the wildlife; where the dens are located, where there's been a kill, what's the best place to get lucky and get a sighting and hopefully a photograph. I learned the general area where there was a Coyote den and managed to get there during the female's relocation, cub by cub, to a new unknown location. I believe she moved the remaining cubs during the night as there was no activity days following. (Canis latrans)

This was a long day of clamming for this young cub. The clams were small so they need to eat a lot of them.

Leopard cub (Panthera pardus) born to Piccadilly female. The cubs, cautiously waiting for their mom's return, were ~3-6 month old when we saw them in July, one male and one female.

This is how you throttle an antelope young fellow, where you are the antelope and I the hungry lion.

Andean Bear (Tremarctos ornatus) cub named "Agapito" born in the early hours of January 8, 2020 . The cub is the first offspring for 5-year old mom "Alba" and 10-year old father "Turbo". He is the first Andean bear cub born at the San Diego Zoo since 1993 and already a little furry super star. Conservation Status: Vulnerable

Had a wonderful sighting of a pride of lions in Kruger Park. There was lots going on with different members of the pride drinking and walking, but I spotted this cub on his own gazing down the road.

I don't know for sure but based on its size, I would guess it is 6-9 months old. A real cutie and one of those moments that I'll always cherish.

Last year I was very lucky to see a couple of cubs playing together in Namibia. Some of you may have seen my favourite shot, but if not it's here:

Young otter on the shoreline, Isle of Mull

On our first evening at Erindi in Namibia we spent the last two hours of sunset with an adult male and female Lion, as well as this young cub. Estimated to be around 2 - 3 months old, once he'd stopped playing with Dad's ears he came over to investigate our jeep. Amazing experience!

Her mother and brother had moved on with barely a passing glance at the boat full of humans off the shore. This wild female Polar Bear (Ursus maritimus) cub usually ignored us. Here she took an interest, getting low and sniffing our scent while watching us intently. Apparently satisfied (or bored) with us after a few moments, she moved on. A brief but invigorating encounter for us anyway.
