A personal exploration into movement and light—this image came to life through intentional motion, rhythm, and play. I let the red lines weave their own path across darkness, like a silent choreography unfolding one frame at a time.

Sometimes the most honest results come when you stop trying to control the outcome and just create.

Lost in darkness, shadows deep,

Bound by fury I cannot speak.

Tongue tied tight, words betray,

All the thoughts I’d need to say.

Anger fierce, a blinding light,

Swallows reason, blocks my sight.

Stumbling here, without control,

As silence buries heart and soul.

Yet beneath this heavy haze,

A spark remains, a quiet blaze.

Though bound in silence, fire seethes,

Yearning for the voice it needs.

In time, the dark may come undone,

And words will find me, one by one.

Yesterday’s debate at the photo club ties perfectly into today’s post. We discussed two different approaches to photography. One group focuses on documenting reality, capturing moments and scenes to “immortalize” them in a visually pleasing way. Using technical skills and compositional knowledge, they aim to create images that are memorable. This reminds me of Ansel Adams, who said, “A great photograph is one that fully expresses what one feels, in the deepest sense, about what is being photographed.”

The other group leans toward photography as a fine art form, emphasizing shapes, lines, and emotions. For them, a photograph goes beyond documentation, aiming to evoke feelings and thoughts, often paired with a meaningful title or text. Photographers like Edward Weston, who transformed everyday objects into stunning abstractions, embody this approach.

Of course, these two options represent extremes, and there’s a whole spectrum of photography that lies in between. Photographers like Saul Leiter, Harry Gruyaert, Alex Webb, and others blend documentary and artistic abstraction beautifully. Their work often uses light, color, and shape to create evocative, layered compositions that transcend simple storytelling. And these are just a few; there are many more who push boundaries and redefine what photography can be.

That said, I know I’ll never stop documenting moments and places, which brings me to today’s post. It’s my way of preserving one of Barcelona’s most iconic landmarks: Casa Batlló, designed by Antoni Gaudí. Its colorful mosaics, flowing curves, and unique details make it a masterpiece of modernist architecture. Whenever I’m in Barcelona—which is about once a quarter—I make a point to pass by and capture it. This isn’t just for my own memories but also to encourage others to visit, as this incredible building is absolutely worth seeing.

At the grand entrance of Ghent University's Aula, you'll find a remarkable and brilliantly orange light installation named 'Conos' gracing the eight Corinthian columns. This artwork bears a resemblance to 'Legs of Reason Skinned,' an installation by Jan Fabre in 2000 that attracted notice on CNN but also faced criticism here. Fabre had covered the columns with fresh ham, but unfortunately, the ham did not stay fresh and had to be removed earlier than planned. In contrast to Fabre's controversial installation, 'Conos,' the installation by SpY, simply announces the return of the Ghent Light Festival, scheduled from January 31st to February 4th. The artwork will continue to light up every evening until December 6th, after which it will be dismantled – Volderstraat, Ghent, Belgium

Wat Sri Mongkol is an important Buddhist temple in Nan, a province in Northern Thailand. The temple is known for its beautiful Lanna style architecture, with detailed carvings, colorful paintings and striking tiered roofs. The most important building is the ubosot, where ordination ceremonies and other Buddhist rituals take place. The temple also houses an impressive chedi, a shrine for relics, and has a peaceful setting with gardens and pavilions where people can meditate and contemplate. Today a festival with music and drums takes place at Wat Sri Mongkol in Nan. It's a local celebration. A festival that celebrates the Buddhist culture, traditions and community of the region. Music and drums are often used to accompany festive events and spiritual gatherings in Thailand.

Burning candles at Thai temples is a deeply rooted spiritual and religious practice that is an important part of the Buddhist tradition in Thailand. This practice has both symbolic and practical meanings and is performed by believers as a way to pay respect to Buddha, earn merit and promote inner peace. Lighting candles often offers a moment of inner peace and reflection. People take time to stop, meditate and calm their minds as they burn the candles. This can help to achieve inner peace. By lighting candles and donating, people hope to perform good deeds and build auspicious karma. The light of the candles is often seen as a symbol of enlightenment and knowledge, and as a way to dispel darkness and ignorance. Lighting candles is associated with easing the mind and spreading positive energy. While lighting candles, people can also say prayers, make wishes, and set positive intentions for themselves and others.

This image captures the vibrant street art beneath the city’s infrastructure in Amsterdam. The interplay of graffiti and geometric shapes creates a striking visual contrast, showcasing the dynamic relationship between urban art and architecture. This underpass serves as a canvas for creativity, reflecting the spirit of the city and its artistic vibrancy.

Groningen is a Dutch city known for its rich history and vibrant cultural scene. And since 2019 it is home to a modern marvel that seamlessly blends the old and the new: the Forum Groningen. This architectural gem stands tall in the heart of the city, captivating both locals and visitors with its innovative design and multifaceted purpose.

It is a Contemporary Masterpiece. The Forum Groningen stands as a symbol of modernity against the backdrop of the city's traditional architecture. Designed by NL Architects in collaboration with the Swiss firm Swiss architects Happel Cornelisse Verhoeven, the building boasts a contemporary and dynamic aesthetic that challenges the conventional.

The building has a unique geometry. Consisting of various stacked cubes and angular shapes, the building presents a visually captivating facade that seems to defy gravity. The architects' choice of form not only adds an element of surprise but also maximizes the use of space within the structure.

The forum is a multi-purposeful development. Beyond its avant-garde exterior, the Forum Groningen houses a versatile space that serves a multitude of functions. It hosts a public library, a state-of-the-art cinema, exhibition spaces, and even a rooftop terrace that offers panoramic views of the city. This intentional integration of diverse functions reflects the architects' commitment to creating a space that caters to the varied interests and needs of the community.

Beyond its architectural prowess, the Forum Groningen is a cultural hub that pulsates with creativity. It hosts a wide array of events, from film festivals to literary gatherings, making it a dynamic space that fosters community engagement and artistic expression. It even houses a publicly available 3D print shop. The building's open design invites individuals to explore and interact, creating a sense of connectivity within the city.

Technical stuff

This is a single handheld shot taken with a Canon G5X. The setting were: 640ISO, -2/3EV, f5.6, 1/25 and 8.8mm. Although, this camera, in Canon’s G-series Powershot range, is versatile and quite good in most all circumstances, it is indoors a little bit strong on noise in the higher ISO-ranges. So, I thought this was a great opportunity to test the recently added AI-driven noise reduction tool in Lightroom. I think, this tool did a great job. Especially with regard to keeping the crisp sharpness of the image. Unfortunately such tools ask rather a lot of processor capacity of one computer… So, you guessed it, a new project is born!

Furthermore, I converted the colour RAW photo into black-and-white with Lightroom and balanced the toning a little. Finally, I added the copyright signs (in Photoshop). The latter is, alas, there to stay due to the frequent copying of my photos. So, don't bother commenting on that.

Behold the kaleidoscopic wonder of the Seven Magic Mountains, where art meets nature in a desert dance of color and form. This monumental installation by artist Ugo Rondinone stands tall as a creative oasis amidst the serene expanse of the Nevada desert.

A festival at Sri Mongkol temple is a lively event full of colors and traditions. It is organized in honor of Buddhist rituals, cultural celebrations or important religious events. These festivals take place on the grounds of a Buddhist temple and attract believers and curious visitors alike. Market stalls and craft stands are often set up around the temple where visitors can buy traditional arts, crafts, clothes and jewelry. This adds to the festive atmosphere and offers participants the chance to obtain unique souvenirs. Performances of traditional dances, music and cultural performances are also a highlight of these festivals. They reflect Thailand's rich cultural heritage and provide entertainment for people of all ages. In the evening, lanterns and candles are lit, representing enlightenment and purification of the mind. The release of lanterns in the sky symbolizes the release of negative emotions. In addition to religious significance, these festivals also serve as social gatherings. People come together in Buddhist ceremonies and enjoy each other's company, contributing to a stronger community bond.

The drum seems almost as big as the young drummer, but that doesn't stop him from hitting it with devotion. With indomitable energy and a glint in his eye, he beats the drum with devotion. With each blow, a deep, resonant sound emanates, filling the air and shaking the ground. His hands move with precision and power, and each stroke seems to be fueled by an inner passion. As the drum tones fill the environment, he begins to dance to the rhythm of his own music. His feet tap and turn in perfect harmony with the beats of the drum, and his body moves like an extension of the music itself. His dance is free and spontaneous, ignited by the rousing sounds he produces from the drum. People around him can't help but be carried away by his enthusiasm. A beautiful performance by this young Thai drummer.

# 🎨 *The Painting in the Artist*

In a gallery tucked between the steel veins of the city, where concrete met canvas and neon flirted with nostalgia, she stood—unapologetically bold, a living brushstroke against a riot of color. Her name was Sera, and she wasn’t just in the painting. She was the painting.

Clad in a sleek black leather outfit that clung to her like a second skin, Sera’s presence was magnetic. Her red hair cascaded in waves, catching the gallery lights and seeming to bleed into the abstract backdrop behind her—an explosion of swirling color, splashes of electric blue, citrus orange, and fuchsia that danced like emotion made visible. The painting behind her was hers, but it was also her mirror.

She had painted it in a fevered burst of self-expression, each stroke a declaration of defiance, each swirl a rebellion against conformity. The canvas was large, almost overwhelming, but it bowed to her presence. Viewers didn’t just admire the art—they felt it, as if her confidence had seeped into the pigments themselves.

Sera’s pose was deliberate: chin lifted, one hand on her hip, the other relaxed, fingers stained with dried paint. Her black jacket, tailored and edgy, framed her like punctuation in a sentence of color. She didn’t smile, but her eyes held a spark—an invitation to see not just the art, but the artist. Not just the woman, but the force.

Around her, the gallery buzzed with murmurs and admiration. Some called it street art elevated to high fashion. Others saw emotional depth in the chaos. But all agreed on one thing: Sera had turned the act of painting into performance, and the performance into portraiture.

She was the muse and the maker, the canvas and the color. In a world that often-demanded softness, she chose sharpness. In a culture that prized subtlety, she embraced spectacle. And in that moment, framed by her own creation, she reminded everyone that true artistry isn’t just about what you make—it’s about who you dare to be.
