The Industrial Design Society of America went all out with a three-pack of custom interior Scout Books, complete with a pull out section! They were created by Ziba for an IDSA “cross-craft” discussion about DIY design held right here in Portland, Oregon. Rod Hunting is a designer and illustrator with some seriously stunning work in his portfolio. His delicate drawings are at once sophisticated and crafty; they're slick yet ooze evidence of the artist's hand at work. Peep his portfolio and get lost in lovely illustration.

Also, while you're at it, check out his installation of vintage camera drawings. It makes the analog nerds around here quite happy.

Rod filled his Scout Book with space-y pencil illustrations. Rod! I mean, Rad!

From the creator of 33 Bottles of Beer and 33 Bottles of Wine comes 33 Cups of Coffee. And none too soon as the Winter months are in full swing! Nothing comes close to a piping hot cup of coffee when it's chilly out.

In true 33 Books fashion, this journal comes complete with a flavor wheel, demystifier, and of course, a little something in the ink! That’s right, a few drops of coffee were added to the ink during the printing of this book.

So head over to your favorite coffee shop or brew some up at home and start your coffee-tasting journey with 33 Cups of Coffee in hand!

These pocket notebooks were created by Pilot to be used as giveaways and note taking tools for a workshop they held with a client. Pilot's plan is to create a series of Scout Books – one for each workshop as they continue to hold them. The bold illustration style used on this Scout Book translates really well on the chipboard.

Girls Can Tell is a small screen printing shop in Philadelphia. Their Etsy shop is chock-full of useful items, including these Scout Books illustrated with informative and beautiful diagrams by Sara Selepouchin. I think my favorite is the brain. I like that idea–perfect for a pocket notebook! I only wish I could write directly into my brain. The quest for more memory continues.

Halle Cisco is a Portland-based graphic designer, illustrator and educator. She created this fantastic Scout Book full of illustrations of random folks. One of them is clutching a fish. Another wields a knife and a radish. One guy is singing karaoke with his eyes closed. Random.

Fifteen random folks sit opposite lined pages for note taking. These folks are just begging to be colored in and have their stories written!

These books are available on our site.

These Scout Books are HOT!

Mt. Hood Community College’s Integrated Media Program recently had it’s yearly Portfolio Show featuring the work of 18 graphic design students and 12 digital photography students of the class of 2010. They handed these Scout Books out to more than 500 attendees of the show and encouraged them all to vote on their favorite portfolio. The book was also used to take notes on each participant and served as a great take-away.

Luke Ramsey is awesome. He creates beautiful, intricate pieces of artwork that include zines, murals, paintings and prints. He also runs Islands Fold, an independent publisher and artist residency in B.C., Canada.

We ran into Luke last summer at the Portland Zine Symposium, and saw him sketching in a Scout Book! Quickly gave him another, and within weeks he had filled it up and sent us images. At long last, here is what the fantastic Luke Ramsey did with the 32 grid pages of a Scout Book.

Awesome! Thanks, Luke.

Jeremy Dubow currently has a solo exhibit of his 11 x 14 oil on mylar paintings titled, Jeremy Dubow: Portraits at Hiromi Ogawa Architects Portland, OR location which will be open through July by appointment. The exhibit consists of 27 portraits each numbered according to the chronological order in which they were painted. Three of these paintings were selected and produced into Scout Books by Beadle Design. Kristin Beadle was so kind as to send us some great photos from the exhibit opening night reception and some great closeups of the Scout Books as well.

Jeremy Dubow is a former Californian, born in San Francisco with his formal education including studies at the Florence Academy of Art in Florence Italy. His love for classical art and contemporary realism are at the heart of his work and quite apparent in this current exhibit. This three-hour head study series is Dubow’s first as a meditation on the form and essence of the subject with an emphasis on decisive brush strokes.

If we didn't already live in Portland, we're positive these Travel Portland Scout Books would make us want to visit. The talented Amy Ruppel created this two-toned illustrative representation of our fair city: big deer statues, Mt. Hood, evergreen trees galore.

Lovely.

Stitch Design Co. created these charming Scout Books as promotional tools for Pearl, a collection of Lexington, KY's finest wedding professionals. When managing plans and jotting down wedding inspiration, it only makes sense to have a Scout Book. See Pearl's little notebooks in action and the cute striped pencils they were paired with on the Stitch blog. Very cute.

Formerly known as Polychrome San Francisco, Standard Studio has launched its new identity and website, and included in the new launch is this fantastic Scout Book.

Standard is a small firm whose members share a common point of view and a common inspiration in utilitarian design. This Scout Book is the culmination of all these things. It was inspired by an old WWII canvas bag with the words "bag for inserting dies and No. 4 grommets" on the front. Standard loved the idea of applying the same approach to their books, thus the copy on their Scout Book. The word is that the books have already been a big hit.

Freshly baked dark chocolate and butter vanilla cupcakes, decorated with Swiss Meringue Salted Caramel (caramel a la fleur de sel) Buttercream at 7:00 am - which is when I finished! I had picked the last of the rosebuds in our garden - just enough to decorate over a dozen for entry in two competitions, Amateur Taste & Amateur Design. I didn't win but it was so much fun!
