MYANMAR,burma - Mandalay , rund um die Kuthodaw-Pagode
Rund um die Pagoden-Anlage
Die Kuthodaw-Pagode (Pagode der Königlichen Verdienste) ist eine 1868 fertiggestellte Anlage in der myanmarischen Stadt Mandalay. Sie besteht aus 729 Stupas in Form pavillonartiger Tempel, in denen je eine weiße Marmorplatte mit birmanischer Schrift steht.
Auf den Marmorplatten ist der Pali-Kanon niedergelegt, das Leben und die Lehren Buddhas. Die ursprünglich vergoldeten Lettern sind heute nur noch schwarz eingefärbt. Die Pagode wird wegen dieser umfangreichen Darstellung auch als „Das größte Buch der Welt“ bezeichnet. Vor der Erschaffung dieser Anlage waren die Texte vorwiegend auf Palmblättern oder Holz niedergeschrieben. Die Inschriften wurden von der UNESCO in die Liste des Weltdokumentenerbes aufgenommen.
In der Mitte der Anlage befindet sich außerdem die vergoldete Maha Lawka Marazein-Pagode, die bereits 1857 nach den Plänen der Shwezigon-Pagode erbaut wurde.

The Kuthodaw Pagoda (Pagoda of Royal Merit) is a complex completed in 1868 in the Myanmar city of Mandalay. It consists of 729 stupas in the form of pavilion-like temples, each containing a white marble slab with Burmese script.
The Pali Canon, the life and teachings of Buddha, is inscribed on the marble slabs. The original gilded letters are now only colored black. The pagoda is also called "The largest book in the world" because of this extensive representation. Before the creation of this complex, the texts were mainly written down on palm leaves or wood. The inscriptions have been included by UNESCO in the list of World Documentary Heritage.
In the center of the complex there is also the gilded Maha Lawka Marazein Pagoda, which was built as early as 1857 according to the plans of the Shwezigon Pagoda.

Each day is a new creation.
Dawn is the most exhilarating time to be taking photographs. Perhaps it's just perception, but everything happens so quickly. Much more so it seems than with sunsets which seem to linger in the summer sky.
This photograph almost didn't happen. The night before at the little historic town of Swansea on Tasmania's east coast it was a literal white out. A marine layer had rolled in during the afternoon with a cloud cover down to several hundred metres. Sunset was out. So I set the alarm to be up as early as possible and first indications were not good.
A little time after I took the blue shot there appeared a little break in the cloud cover. In an instant the light broke through in one majestic burst (the sun was still below the horizon). If you look closely you'll see Venus peering through at us as well. The lights of Coles Bay and the outline of the Freycinet Peninsula can also be seen. And just as quickly it seemed to disappear as the hole in the clouds closed again.
Perhaps the creation of the earth looked something like this. Strangely, the music I would set to this creation scene is Mozart's "Requiem in D" (K626). I love the music, but there is also something uniquely linked in the concepts of death and rebirth. One day dies only to be born anew at the dawn of New Light.

The composition of this image was achieved IN CAMERA using an Apple iPhone 4S. Post capture processing was indeed done, but only involving the treatment of light and colour. By "breaking the rules" of the iPhone's panoramic function, the image can be skewed, splintered or fragmented into a multi-planarity that could, perhaps be called a form of "Millennial Cubism".

Coit Tower is a 210-foot (64 m) tower in the Telegraph Hill neighborhood of San Francisco, California, offering panoramic views over the city and the bay. The tower, in the city's Pioneer Park, was built between 1932 and 1933 using Lillie Hitchcock Coit's bequest to beautify the city of San Francisco.
The art deco tower, built of unpainted reinforced concrete, was designed by architects Arthur Brown, Jr. and Henry Howard. The interior features fresco murals in the American Social Realism style, painted by 25 different onsite artists and their numerous assistants, plus two additional paintings installed after creation offsite.
