Here in UK, we are back in lock-down so must stay in our own area and only travel if necessary, so I'm back looking for local photo opportunities.
My local Lone Tree, less than a mile from my home. This is the first time I’ve photographed it (I’ve only lived here 44 years!).
Definitely one I’ll return to as the seasons change.
Lamoreaux cranks up his new fangled automobile and steps in with a grin. He spins the wheel with one hand and chugs out on the lane. All that fancy machine makes all kinds of noise and smells like the Dickens. The same time, Guy saddles up his old mare and takes the back way, turns the mare out and waits for Lamoreaux. Who’s got a big ole grin now? Lamoreaux thinks he’s all that and a sack of potatoes too! Guy just grins. Don’t gotta talk. But I guess you know. Richard comes out and yells he aint paying for chit-chat and resting and get a move on. Sun’s coming out and its time to work. Don’t no one grin when Richard got a bug up his. End of the day and the boys are wore out thin. Richard smiles the first time in ages and says sompting about learning how to work tha whole day through.
Want more of this story, take a look at St. George's Place. Its a photo album.
The names are mostly Canadien French. Guy is pronounced /Gee/. Lamoreax is said like: L' more Yae. When you meet up with Richard, you better call him Mister. Richard is said like /Ree Shard/.

Shot taken for Saturday Self Challenge 08/02/2025 - Twisted .
Well these bits of copper wire in different colours look rather straight for the " Twisted " challenge - however , they may be straight but each piece is made up of between two to five different coloured strands of wire . In the bottom left is part of the crank that is turned with the required number of pieces of wire and within seconds there is a twisted wire of varying colours ready for use in making jewellery , art pieces or whatever .
And for music while you twist --------

The National Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (MNACTEC), despite being "scattered" throughout the country, has its headquarters at Vapor Aymerich, Amat i Jover, in Terrassa. It is an impressive art nouveau industrial building (1907), which itself retains much of the original steam power installations.
This is just a part of the huge steam engine that powered the whole factory.
I stopped by the annual Lions Club carnival in Lexington today, and had fun with my zoom lens. I cranked up the shutter speed in the late afternoon sunshine.
Early 40's Dodge trucks still had the option of handcranking to start the engine. Not sure if this option carried through the war or not.
An old shot reworked in Nik Viveza for better contrast, etc. These are winch handles of some kind attached to a carnival ride.
If you're in the swamp and hear this strange "Gonk a la gonk" noise, its probably an American Bittern cranking his tunes. Its humorous to watch this big balloon of air start from its stomach, travel up its throat and explode in this weird song.
Crank hill in Billinge earlier today.A selfie of sorts.......,couldn't wait for someone to walk in so I did it myself...... ;)
Thanks for looking,
Chris.
SFG Train 565-27 and its three MLW RS18u's are digging into the grade out of Nouvelle-Ouest, with a big train of cement along with a large pick up of chips and lumber from the lumber mill.
With the engines in notch 8, the engineer is slowly getting the train up to track speed, as they head to Matapedia.
