Corn field in Norfolk UK

The rural landscapes in Iowa (and most of the midwest US) are dominated by the two major agricultural crops-corn and soybeans. For those not familiar, the dark green areas are soybeans and the yellow/green strips are corn with the light color coming from the tassels (the male flower) at the top of the corn plants. Despite a VERY dry summer the plants still look quite good, but the yields will suffer dramatically if we do not get significant rains soon.

The farmer across the street has started the Corn harvest.

To date he is partially comp;leted but the rain has caused a delay.

Hopefully he'll get back out there next week when the weather warms and dries up.

Bit of a re-work for Macro Mondays "One of These Things" theme. No time to take something new.

Have a good week, catching up :-)

Corn Bunting. (Embiriza calandra) Hackpen Hill on the Ridgeway, Wiltshire, England

Great to see these Corn Buntings early doors today on Salisbury Plain, Wiltshire, as they are getting increasingly rare in the UK these days:-)

This year the squirrels have 'planted' a lot of bird feeder corn all over the neighborhood, with their instinct to hide food in the ground for another day. I found a 6-foot plant in a neighbor's yard that hadn't been pulled up and it made for a nice close-up shot :)

Leeds Corn Exchange is a Victorian building which was completed in 1863. Designed by Cuthbert Brodrick, a Hull architect. It is a Grade 1 listed building. In the late 1980's it was converted into a retail facility. After further restoration the Corn Exchange contains a number of independent retailers and food outlets. It is described as one of only three remaining Corn Exchanges still functioning as a centre for trade in Britain although not as a Corn Exchange. (1563)
