A favorite move during the dance, picking a stick or some corn husk and tossing to around. this bird is admiring its own move.

The rural landscapes in Iowa (and most of the midwest US) are dominated by the two major agricultural crops-corn and soybeans. For those not familiar, the dark green areas are soybeans and the yellow/green strips are corn with the light color coming from the tassels (the male flower) at the top of the corn plants. Despite a VERY dry summer the plants still look quite good, but the yields will suffer dramatically if we do not get significant rains soon.

This light show lasted about ten minutes and I missed the deep reds by a few minutes.

The farmer across the street has started the Corn harvest.

To date he is partially comp;leted but the rain has caused a delay.

Hopefully he'll get back out there next week when the weather warms and dries up.

Corn Bunting. (Embiriza calandra) Hackpen Hill on the Ridgeway, Wiltshire, England

This year the squirrels have 'planted' a lot of bird feeder corn all over the neighborhood, with their instinct to hide food in the ground for another day. I found a 6-foot plant in a neighbor's yard that hadn't been pulled up and it made for a nice close-up shot :)

Bear Corn is a parasitic plant (not a fungus). It feeds on the roots of mostly oak and beech trees.

This Corn bunting was photographed at RSPB Bempton Cliffs last summer.

Sadly this bird is on the Red List. For those who don't know, this means that it is on "a list of birds in the UK, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man in most urgent need of our help. It includes some of our rarest birds such as hen harriers and capercaillie, but also familiar birds like house sparrows and starlings, which have suffered huge declines." RSPB

A quick rest from Florida birds. I headed out in search of the Prothonotary Warbler. Doesn't always wok out as planned. Came across the incredibly beautiful Corn Snake and an Alligator.

due to some visitors I´m off ´til Monday
