The rural landscapes in Iowa (and most of the midwest US) are dominated by the two major agricultural crops-corn and soybeans. For those not familiar, the dark green areas are soybeans and the yellow/green strips are corn with the light color coming from the tassels (the male flower) at the top of the corn plants. Despite a VERY dry summer the plants still look quite good, but the yields will suffer dramatically if we do not get significant rains soon.
Great to see these Corn Buntings early doors today on Salisbury Plain, Wiltshire, as they are getting increasingly rare in the UK these days:-)
The farmer across the street has started the Corn harvest.
To date he is partially comp;leted but the rain has caused a delay.
Hopefully he'll get back out there next week when the weather warms and dries up.

This year the squirrels have 'planted' a lot of bird feeder corn all over the neighborhood, with their instinct to hide food in the ground for another day. I found a 6-foot plant in a neighbor's yard that hadn't been pulled up and it made for a nice close-up shot :)
The albino corn snake is a color morph bred from the common corn snake (Pantherophis guttatus) Corn snakes are a species of snake in the rat snake family that live in the eastern United States. They have slender, orange or brownish-yellow bodies with a pattern of large, red blotches outlined in black down their backs. Corn snakes are popular as pets because they have a variety of different colors and patterns.
