Captured in April 2019 as a counter-protest started to gather in George Square in response to an anti-abortion rally that was taking place.
Women's rights have been trampled on once again. Freedoms removed, not by an ultra-religious group such as the Taliban but by an ultra-religious group of Christian Supreme Court Judges in America. Different religions, different Gods perhaps, but the same demands of dominance over women. A dystopia, not unlike The Handmaid's Tale, where women are treated no differently than livestock. Where guns have more rights than women!
Don't think for a minute that the extreme right-wing appointments by Former President Trump will stop at abortion. There are already rumblings that they are coming after right to contraception and same-sex marriage.
Don't think for a minute that this only applies to the USA. Some Conservative politicians here have congratulated the result on Twitter and our own rights are about to be stripped away under the so-called 'Bill of Rights' that will be passing through parliament soon.
Freedoms are under attack by far right governments around the world. If we don't stand up for our rights and freedoms, in support of each other, then we all lose in the end!
Remember: First they came...
If we don't speak out they will come, ultimately, for you.

About a week ago, I took the opportunity to go about 40 minutes from my home to the Salt River to see some wild horses that live within the Tonto National Forest (Tonto Pass required). It was quite a large herd, with probably 50-75 horses or more. I had my long lens so I got a lot of portraits. I thought this one was pretty.
There is a group set up called the Salt River Wild Horse Management Group, staffed by volunteers and funded by the state and private contributions. They monitor the herd daily, rescuing injured horses, maintaining fencing that keeps them off the roads, putting out feed in times of drought, etc. They also administer “humane birth control” with an immuno-contraception to stabilize population growth since the herd is sort of landlocked by civilization in an area that can only support so many horses. The birth control used does not harm nor influence their hormones and therefore does not harm or influence their reproductive behaviors and herd dynamics. I'm not sure exactly how its administered, but they say that the horses don't have to be captured. So maybe they put a little something "special" in feed that's put out.

Urban environments are areas prone to some species proliferating and becoming a plague, because the city fosters a favorable microclimate, they have water and food, they occupy empty ecological niches and there are no elements of natural regulation.
As specific causes, we find that the climatic range of Barcelona coincides with that of its areas of origin.
Prevention and control actions to be established
Control methods that are based on contraception are the most indicated to reduce the population.
Currently only acts on the nests in the pruning season and in those that are at risk of falling. However, in the case of parrots, it is being studied whether control measures on structural elements, such as eliminating nests, have a real effect on population control.

African women have always been active in agriculture, trade, and other economic pursuits, but a majority of them are in the informal labour force. African women are guardians of their children's welfare and have explicit responsibility to provide for them materially. They are the household managers, providing food, nutrition, water, health, education, and family planning to an extent greater than elsewhere in the developing world.
This places heavy burdens on them, despite developments such as improved agriculture technology, availability of contraception, and changes in women's socioeconomic status, which one might think would have made their lives easier. In fact, it would be fair to say that their workload has increased with the changing economic and social situation in Africa. Women's economic capabilities, and in particular their ability to manage family welfare, are being threatened. 'Modernization' has shifted the balance of advantage against women. The legal framework and the modern social sector and producer services developed by the independent African countries have not served women well.

Women are marching because our children deserve a secretary of education that cares about education.
Women are marching because our family and friends deserve healthcare. Did you know that before the ACA, newborns in the NICU would hit their lifetime caps on health insurance coverage. That's right, Babies who had never felt the sun on their skin could no longer get health insurance.
Women are marching BECAUSE abortion rates are actually the LOWEST in decades, because women get preventive healthcare and contraception.
Women are marching because domestic violence crisis centers and after school programs deserve funding.
Women are marching because we deserve clean air, clean water, and national parks.
Women are marching because we believe the children protected by the DREAM act deserve to be here and they deserve to live with their parents, not in orphanages and foster homes.
And most of all, women are marching because we have the right to. The right to protest and speak out against our government is the first amendment. That's right, #1! It is one of our most fundamental American rights.
Saying that we're whining, throwing temper tantrums, or that we're immature, or that we need to get over it will not stop us. It will not stop us from fighting for you. And we are fighting for you because you deserve these rights too.
We're not marching because Trump won.
We're marching because he wants to take all of the things that we hold dear away. All of the things that we've been fighting for generations.
And we're not giving up easily.
Anyone who thinks we're marching because we lost just simply isn't listening. We're fighting because we refuse to lose more.
Sorry I couldn't resist the title. Wikipaedia tells us that the Great Orme headland is home to about 200 Kashmir goats. The herd is descended from a pair of animals that were presented to Queen Victoria shortly after her coronation in 1837 by the Shah of Persia. Goats have lived on the Orme for more than a century ago. The herd size is now controlled by artificial contraception; the action was taken because competition for resources was forcing goats off the Orme into gardens and property.The Royal Welsh, a large regiment in the British Army, is permitted by the British Monarch to choose an animal from the herd to be a Regimental Goat (if it passes selection, it is given the honorary rank of lance corporal).

When primate keepers at the orangutan and siamang habitat arrived for work on November 12, 2018, they didn’t know that by day’s end, they would have one more charge in their care.
The Zoo’s siamangs Unkie and Eloise (Ellie for short) had previously made a significant contribution to the population in managed care of this endangered species: they had successfully raised five female offspring over the years. With Ellie on contraception, their reproductive years had come to a close.
Or so the animal care staff thought. Contraception is not 100 percent assured, and that day, Ellie was quietly and calmly cradling a new infant. And not just any infant, but the smallest siamang the keepers had ever seen. Keepers kept a close eye on Ellie and the newborn in the warmth and humidity of the siamang bedrooms. “Usually, a siamang infant can cling to its mom within a day or two, and can find a nipple on its own. But this infant wasn’t as strong as she should have been,” says Tanya Howard, senior keeper. Fortunately, because she was an experienced and capable mother, “Ellie positioned the baby on her nipple,” says Julie Krajewski, senior keeper. “She is an excellent mom. That’s something a first-time mom might not do.”

Should that read 'Womanifestation' or 'Personifestation, even? I just don't know anymore, but at least I got her, then, pronoun right.
The rumour that the piece ended with a 'marriage' between the writer and the artist has never been validated.

I'm finding myself feeling much more settled recently and I think that's why my self portraiture has taken a firm back seat these past couple of months. I've often used self portraiture as a means to heal inconsistencies in my life (or some would say - use it as a distraction) but either way, I'm much more comfortable with who I am now both mentally and physically.
I've stopped taking my pill. After over 10 years of taking contraception my body is resuming a normal cycle and quite honestly I've never felt better. Has anyone else had this experience? A landmark SCOTUS decision to overturn Roe v. Wade where one day women went to bed with rights and woke up without them, had never been done before! The only thing close that comes to mind would be the National Prohibition Act.
More than abortion, Roe v. Wade stood on the once thought fundamental right of a woman's right to privacy. Where do women go from here?
Also mentioned in Judge Thomas' concurring opinion are: Griswold v. Connecticut, on the right to contraception; Lawrence v. Texas, on the right to same-sex intimacy; and Obergefell v. Hodges, on the right to same-sex marriage. Meaning? Same-sex marriage and methods of contraception, YES contraception, are sure to be in the cross hairs of SCOTUS.
If you feel your rights slipping away, you're not alone. When I heard about the leaked draft opinion back in May, I felt a sense of heaviness and I wept. This is the entrance to the footbridge at our nearest railway station, Fratton. We are lucky to be so close - less than 10 minutes walk - with trains that can take us directly to London, Cardiff, Bath and Brighton, and places in between (it's not cheap though!) I've only been on the train twice since lockdown: home after meeting my friend Liz and to Cosham with Tim, when he had to have a CT scan at the hospital, but we pass it often. This road, Goldsmith Avenue, is usually very busy, but at this moment (early Sunday) there were absolutely no cars at all, which is partly why I took the photo!
Some info from Wikipedia: Fratton railway station is a railway station in the city of Portsmouth, on Portsea Island in the United Kingdom. It was opened in the Fratton area of Portsmouth on 1 July 1885 as an interchange station between the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway and the short-lived Southsea Railway branchline.
Fratton railway station and the Southsea Railway were jointly opened on 1 July 1885 by Lady Ada Mary Willis, wife of General Sir George Willis, the Lieutenant Governor of Portsmouth.
On 4 July 1905, Fratton railway station's name was changed to Fratton & Southsea to promote its Southsea Railway branchline link to the seaside resort of Southsea. At “We’re Here!” today we have been challenged to insert ourselves into ”How things were in the olden days.” The idea is to find a vintage photo and blend a selfie in.
I thought I might try to find an old public domain photo of doctors and nurses, since we all seem to be fixated on medical topics right now. But I came across this photo of Marie Stopes in her laboratory, and was intrigued enough to go find out more. I’ve been seeing some outrageous stories of certain politicians using the coronavirus pandemic as an excuse to execute on something they’ve been trying for a long time to do by other means – shut down abortion clinics. So, I decided to use this photo today.
“Dr Marie Stopes was born in 1880 in Edinburgh in Scotland, and although a pioneer in providing family planning services, she wasn’t a medical doctor, something that outraged the medical community at the time. She opened her first family planning clinic, with her second husband Humphrey Roe, in 1921 – and was attacked by the medical establishment for being female, not medically qualified and for employing nurses rather than doctors to consult with most of her clients.
