Female bonobo (pan paniscus) named "Kali" born 3/15/05. Bonobos are one of the four species of great apes. They are found in a relatively small area of the Congo Basin within the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Kali lives with a troop of 9 bonobos in a spacious African rain forest habitat at the San Diego Zoo.
Conservation status: Endangered
Following someone along the road one afternoon and this was dropped from the plant they were carrying. Put the cutting in some rooting hormone and into some soil and left it. Knowing not what it was going to turn into, suddenly these flowers appeared after twelve months. Having looked it up its quite exotic.An exotic perennial evergreen but what a flower. Also known as the Parrot Impatiens and The African Queen.

Congo African Grey has always mesmerised me with it's behaviour and beautiful sounds like whistles and trills. As it is one of the smartest and a very intelligent bird, it is the most captured and illegally trafficked parrot. They have a long lifespan in the wild of about 60 plus years. Their brain power matches a human child aged four to six. They do not just copy sounds; they can learn what words mean and name colours or shapes. An African grey named Alex, studied by scientist Irene Pepperberg, learned to count and identify over 80 objects. A most colorful bug (Sphaerocoris annulus, Scutelleridae, Hemiptera) feeding on herbaceous plants along the Luapula river (Upper-Katanga, DR Congo, 1 February 2018).

Abandoned house in Belgium from our trip this weekend. I'd already shot this room and was happy with the shot, but then the sun came out and this glorious light beam shot down from the ceiling, me James and Sam ran round the room kicking up the dust and soon it was full of them. One of those beautifully, surreal moments and totally breathtaking.

Congo is one of the many sets of dances, songs and folk expressions by slaves brought to Brazil in the Colonial Period. Particularmanete is characterized by the use of drums in different sizes, typical costumes and choreography and songs that invoke the Gods. Currently it is a manifestation folk / religious, where pay homage to St. Benedict and Our Lady of Penha in festivals that take place throughout the months of December and January. Are common in the Holy Spirit festival dedicated to St. Benedict, where it drops a tall tree, cut up the branches leaving only the trunk, which will be the "mast of St. Benedict," which is carried through the streets and set in a courtyard of party, which puts a banner with the figure of the saint.
Republic of Congo 2025, expedition down the 2 rivers including my dreamed Congo river . Almost eaten alive by millions of little creatures. But survived in one piece.

So many people have asked the story behind this photo and interpreted the expression and demeanor of this man in their own way, that I'd be remiss to share too much.
All I will say about this photo is that this man is one of the most interesting I met in rural east Congo (South Kivu). Even when he wasn't speaking, his face told many stories.
