Lighting conditions were changing fast that morning. Thus, another take on Niagara's Horseshoe Falls.
Norfolk Hawker - Anaciaeschna isoceles (M)
Habitat
The optimum conditions for breeding appear to be unspoilt grazing marsh dyke systems with clean, non-saline water, rushy margins, preferably with an abundance of water soldier as well as other aquatic plants.
Threats
Conversion of grazing marsh to arable farming.
Inappropriate ditch management.
Nutrients enrichment.
Pollution.
The impact of global climate change and fluctuations in water levels.
Status & Distribution
The Norfolk Hawker is currently restricted to the fens and grazing marshes that are relatively isolated from polluted water in the Broadlands of Norfolk and Northeast Suffolk. A Local Biodiversity Action Plan (LBAP) for the Norfolk Hawker has been drafted for Norfolk.
Similar Species
Brown Hawker
Brown wings.
Blue-brown eyes.
Blue and yellow markings.
Management
Norfolk Hawker Management Profile
General management principles include maintaining grazing marshes, controlling saline intrusion, controlling nutrient enrichment. There are also best practice guidelines for managing inhabited sites, particularly the dyke vegetation and the surrounding terrestrial habitats.
Case Study
Work is underway to restore habitats for this species in Norfolk.
I keep saying it but the conditions we were presented with were more than we could ever have hoped for.
There is another vantage point just off to the right that provides a similar composition but includes Loughrigg Tarn. Personally I think it's the better comp but another tog was already there and whilst there were several people up by the trig point, the four of us that were in this area kept to ourselves for the first hour or so. I think we were all a little blown away and just wanted to get our shots and savour the spectacle in front of us. I did have a quick chat with one of them who kindly let me stand behind his tripod and take a wider selfie shot that I posted last week.
We all ended up back at the convergence of the many paths that weave their way around the undulations, lumps and bumps of Loughrigg and had a chat about what we had just witnessed when the mist and best of the conditions had passed. I could've stayed up here for another couple more hours but had a pressing engagement with a Full English breakfast and a mug of Yorkshire's finest.
Probably my favourite shot from the morning.
When conditions are sufficient things manifest. When conditions are no longer sufficient things withdraw. They wait until the moment is right for them to manifest again.

We've been told it's going to snow this weekend, but this magnolia tree is getting ready for spring with its fuzzy buds.
Due to calm weather conditions, reflections were perfect, giving images as if there were another world under the water. Fortunately, cherry blossoms were still in full bloom on the left side. At the West Moat, Hirosaki Park, Hirosaki, Japan The photo was taken from a bridge on the moat.

These conditions were more than I could have asked for. The drive up was terrible and muddy and my truck still has mud stuck in places 3 weeks later. In the end it was all worth it for this shoot, and this one is just the beginning!!!! Vlog this weekend!! Kris.. Vlog below…
Blustery conditions and not a reflection in sight.

The weather conditions on this day were like no other I have ever seen. There had been quite a large amount of snow falling over the previous days, but the road was clear to drive the incline to Beachy Head (over 500 ft above sea level). When I got to the top this scene awaited me. I quickly found a place to park and walked across the road to capture these amazing crepuscular rays shining down on the surface of the sea. There was a lone figure walking down the path towards the cliff tops and I wondered whether he would make it back in daylight as the sun was setting fast.
One problem with shooting at an exceptionally beautiful place with extra good conditions is, that You are unable to decide what photo You should publish. I don't want to decide and so I show You the same scene from different perspectives, Your loss, but don't panic, there is only one version coming, some day. In this case I concentrated on the two main subjects, the lonely tree in the rapefield and mt. Lilienstein in the background.
The conditions in which I was shooting in here were very dark, as it was quite early in the morning, so unfortunately I had to bump up my ISO, but I still like how this one came out.
Taken in Estes Park, Colorado
P.S. If you zoom in on this shot, and the photo doesn't look sharp anymore, just move your cursor around a bit.
Weather conditions were more favorable for photographing these fidgety warblers today, and this young chestnut-sided warbler even stopped for a second to stretch out! Key ID features here are the bright white eye ring and greenish-gold cap on its head.
Conditions were perfect: 80% chance of rain and strong winds. What could be better? For shooting osprey, nothing. Rain suit for me and my camera and a surprising a lot of other adventurous souls showed up for the show. The pelicans seemed to being doing better than the osprey, dive after dive while the osprey were out in force looking but not catching much. This one did well however, and one greedy pelican made an attempted steal. The osprey pulled up up an away!

One of my favorite places in the Amsterdam forest. The person with the dog made a great shadow in these misty conditions.
Hop you have a great weekend and many thanks for your comments and favs
Weather conditions improved in the late afternoon. This is a northwestward view from a hill that used to be the site for Chichijima's weather station.
The island in the left is Nishijima (西島, western island), while those in the right are Hyoutanjima (瓢箪島 gourd island), Anijima (兄島 older brother island), and Hitomarujima (人丸島).
According the climate data provided by Japan Meteorological Agency, average temperature of the coldest month in Chichijima is 18.5 degree Celsius, which means Chichijima has a tropical climate.
Annual precipitation of Chichijima is 1,296 mm, and the precipitation of the driest month is 51.6 mm, which means Chichijima has the tropical monsoon climate (Am) as compared to the humid subtropical climate (Cfa) in the Izu islands and the main island part of Tokyo.
Chichijima's climate is relatively dry judging from the Japanese standard; annual precipitation of downtown Tokyo is 1,530 mm.

"...one of the first conditions of happiness is that the link between man and nature shall not be broken.”
I'm wishing I was out 'connecting' with nature but instead I'm connected to a computer and desk. BUT -- good news! It is Friday and I'm looking forward to some outdoor time tomorrow. Rain and 5 degrees in the forecast but those quiet early mornings are worth getting bundled up for!
Happy weekend all!!
Picture taken from Grödner Joch towards the magnificent Langkofelgroup with perfect weather conditions….
This enormous Irish Oak { Quercus Petrea } which only grows in the western and northern areas of England and all over Ireland, as it likes the damp boggy conditions as long as its feet are dry, stands alone in its Autumn colours in a field at Derrybawn Co. Wicklow. This tree was once part of a vast forest that covered this area but which were felled to build "The Fleet" during the days of the great sailing ships in England.
The reason why it survived is because of its odd shape. The trunk is too short for the timber to be of any commercial use so it was spared from the woodsman axe. In England it would have been chopped down to make charcoal.
There is a large branch, 20 feet long lying on the right and its just visible. It would have been a match to the one on the left and would have balanced the tree. When this happens the tree reacts by strengthening and lengthening the root system on the affected side in order to prevent itself from becoming top heavy and falling over.
Ive taken some measurements and the age of it is approaching 900 years of age.It is getting the end of its natural life. I think that is is stunning with its wild tentacled octopus like branches spreading out and tapering gradually to very fine terminal ends which are like small delicate outstretched hands. There are many different oak species through out the World and they are all instantly recognisable because of this unique growth habit. most famous is the English oak { Q.robur } which can grow up to 20ft taller. It also grows here and doesnt have the short stems that attach the leaves to the branches that the Irish oak, has which makes for a more refined appearance.
A translation of Derrybawn where this tree goes is " The White Oaks " which obviously refers to the great forest which is long gone.
I will go back here shortly to get a Winter photo of it. I do have a Summer one up on Flickr.
I hope you do like this lovely tree as much as I do and it was lucky find as its not widely known about. It should be kept that way too.
Have a great weekend and fingers crossed for some decent weather! Im going to do some tree hugging, well anybody and anything hugging really as Im getting a bit desperate!!! Lol!
Pat.
My photos are also easily viewed on Flickriver, on the attached link. Hopefully you may find a pic that you may like.
Cheers!

Due to drought conditions, water is not always present at the falls. We were lucky to see a trickle coming over the cliff high above. Still pretty awesome and the area is beautiful. There are signs galore warning of potential landslides and danger, but visitors (such as myself) ventured close anyway.

Gloomy conditions at Preston Sands Beach, Paignton made for this shot of a small wave washing over the top of an outfall pipe and in the distance Queen Victoria and Arcadia were anchored.
Horrible light conditions here, it was approaching dark when this was shot. Shot at 1/160th, 3200 iso and very under exposed. I lightened it up quite a bit and did my best to clean up the noise.
Just prior to this, the fledgling on the left was perched about three feet to the left. It must have read my mind and snuggled up to it's siblings for a nice photo op.

Conditions for limestone pavements are created when an advancing glacier scrapes away overburden and exposes horizontally bedded limestone, with subsequent glacial retreat leaving behind a flat, bare surface. Limestone is slightly soluble in water and especially in acid rain, so corrosive drainage along joints and cracks in the limestone can produce slabs called clints isolated by deep fissures called grikes or grykes[2] (terms derived from a northern English dialect).

With calm, clear weather conditions at sunset, it was well worth a second visit to the Starling murmuration at Radipole Lake in the centre of Weymouth. The photo above was taken at 16.50 as the flock circled and circled creating all sorts of ever-changing shapes.
The photo below was taken two minutes later when some birds seemed about to drop into the reedbed but most, if not all, pulled out at the last second. The skies finally became empty of Starlings at exactly 17.00. Last evening they finally dropped in at 17.05.
Winter conditions slowly take hold of the Cariboo Mountains as they remain enshrouded behind a stormy veil over Bowron Lake. In the in 1860’s the first Europeans came to the Cariboo Mountains to find their fortunes, as part of what became known as the first Cariboo Gold Rush. Originally referred to simply as “Bear Lake” it was eventually renamed Bowron Lake after John Bowron, the first Gold Commissioner of the nearby gold mining town Barkerville, who organised numerous exploration parties into the remote mountains to look for gold-bearing ground. If conditions are good, as they were this morning, this is one of my favourite spots to take a photograph, Garreg Ddu Dam, Elan valley, Powys, Wales, UK
Very shortly after I’d taken the slow shutter-speed shot of the water, this chap ran along the edge of the bathing pool and simply leapt into the churning sea and paddled off in search of his wave. I just managed to crank up my iso enough to catch him and I fired off a couple of shots. It all happened so quickly.
This is a composite of the two images.
Bude bathing pool on Summerleaze beach, after sunset. Winter.
Well they were testing conditions to start with, and I took this before any sunlight appeared and with wet underpants. The cloud had just lifted off the distant mountains, the Langdale Pikes, and the view was beginning to open up for me as the breeze slowly dried my nethers.
I can't deny it is a great view from Holme Fell, out over the slate quarry workings of Hodge Close and to the North West. I just needed some splashes of sunlight rather than the lashing rain and hail that came to soak me again, several times over.
A quick trip up to Shining Tor after leaving work
Spectacular conditions with rainbows and stormy clouds. I had to be quick to get this shot and it was the only image I got before the light faded. Prob some of the best light I have witnessed.

Weather conditions are kinda rough today, heavy rain and snowfall are forecasted.
A blanket of snow is still visible outside in our area and right now it’s snowing heavily again.
So I thought it’s a good day for a winter photo ;-)
At least it’s finally really wet outside and that’s good for nature after the dry weeks lately.
Conditions along the Lake Huron shoreline were perfect for creating a natural winter wonderland. Open water, high winds and a cold arctic air mass all combined to create natural ice sculptures of the trees, bushes and shrubs next to the water.
This shot was taken in Goderich Ontario during the small window of opportunity when we had partial cloud cover. You can see the clouds from the next weather system approaching in the distance which added for some dramatic effect.
Thanks for viewing and hope you have a wonderful day!!
Weather conditions during Rocky Mountaineer's trek across Soldier Summit on Nov. 5, 2022 were in stark contrast. Price Canyon was party cloudy and relatively warm while Spanish Fork Canyon was cloudy, dark, with light rain. The luxury cruise train is pictured about to plunge into the 403 ft. Nolan Tunnel on a 1.73% grade. Admittedly, a video with sound would be far more interesting as a pair of GP40-3s strut their stuff on a mountain grade.
Done for the Toneless Tuesdays group.
Thank you for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
