Smile On Saturday-Fish

This is a simple blend of some digital photos I took last year of some purple flowers.
I am often asked about my process. In all honesty, here is the process I used when creating this blended wallpaper:
Step 1. TAKE UGLY PHOTOS
I was taking a series of unflattering pictures of the Phoenix, Arizona cityscape and desert to send to some friends back east. The message being, "well at least you don't live here!"
Near the apartments where I used to live, there was a patch of purple floral ground covering which was quite unattractive, so I took numerous shots of it from many focal lengths and angles.
Step 2. BLEND THEM AS A JOKE
After I created my earlier red flower blends, I rediscovered this set, so I blended "the ugly purple flower photos" just for fun. I was surprised how pretty it turned out, but I still wasn't satisfied.
For months, I've tried to turn this blend into something stunning, with no luck. During this time, I randomly set this blend as my own computer desktop wallpaper, and promptly forgot about it.
Step 3. LET SOMEONE SEE THEM ACCIDENTALLY
My housemate walked into my home office the other day, during a rare moment when I had no windows open on my computer, and saw the desktop and said, "Wow! Pretty!"
I was a little surprised, since he's quite a collector of digital wallpapers, but I thought, hey, if he likes it as is, maybe some other folks will, too.
Step 4. RESIZE AND PUBLISH TO FLICKR
So I polished up the blend a little, resized it to standard desktop wallpaper sizes, and decided to upload it as is. If anything ever comes to me, I'll put the "finished" version up later!

The Milky Way Core
Having another go at re-processing the core of the Milky Way to get used to the software – since i am still very new at Astrophotography and all its intricacies, this was about 5 images (in reality needed way more) which were stacked in Deep Sky Stacker (DSS) before being edited in Lightroom and being further touched up in Luminar 2018 (Image Enhancer & some minor AI Boosts)

What is a Seamless Texture / Pattern?
A seamless texture is an special image, where one side of a image exactly matches the opposite side, so that the edges blend into each other when repeated. Seamless textures are used for desktop wallpaper, webpage backgrounds, video games, Photoshop fills and in 3D rendering programs.
How did you make it?
This texture was made using software specially designed to aid in seamless texture creation. Some of the programs I’ve use are Photoshop, Illustrator, Filter Forge, Genetica, Image Synth, Alien Skin, Topaz Labs, Imagelys, and a Wacom tablet.

This is somehow the shot I wanted to take yesterday - just I didn't use a big enough candle.
Today I did my experiments with a big citronella candle, that makes a lot of dark smoke, as it burns its red flame, and got dozen of amazing shots.
As yesterday, I used a black cardboard backdrop, a flash with a snoot and a remote trigger. But this time I didn't need to blow out the candle to make smoke.
After a few tries I found that setting the power of the flash between 1/8 and 1/2 I could get amazing smoke shots, mostly depending on the position of the flash.
At first I tried to do as many suggest, avoiding any light spilling on the backdrop, but actually I really like shots like this, when you can see the light coming in the scene.
I ended up with dozen of amazing shots, and a very smokey room - next time I'll try this outside! ;-)

I was trying to work out tonight if I should head out to Kilcunda to capture some images as there was a potential Aurora Alert, thrilled to see such an incredible Aurora!

Welcome to 2017! And for the first time around here at escapesphoto, we're going with a theme year. It's 12 months of Paris. France. Cause why not? So strap in and enjoy one of the most fantastic places on earth.
We'll start with the one shot everyone says you must make - a shot without Montparnasee Tower IN IT. The 59-story monstrosity (visually and architecturally) is a great platform to shot from, but is somewhat reviled when you see it in shots. But the roof is truly built for photography (and tourists), and is open til 11pm in the summer, so you can make many many unimpeded shots in 360-degree splendor of all of Paris. So we did...Shooting west toward's Eiffel's Tower and Napolean's Tomb (on the right), and out all the way to La Defense. I give you Paris - at sunset. Oooh la la!

Walking through the thick woods, most of the branches from trees were up very high as the they fought for light. Down at eye level there was this single sprout poking out from the trunk. I thought it would make a nice background picture for a computer.
A blend of seven digital photos of my eye - some of the left, some of the right, superimposed with a blend of a great number of the "musical milkdrop" visualizations.

This place is so big, that even the small shots seem larger than life. It just goes on and on - a magnificent building - but what do you expect for something that took roughly 175 years to throw up?

On our way to Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP last November - and we stopped just short of Paonia, CO - as a late fall snow blanketed the cottonwoods and aspens on a little hillock overlooking this stream and cabin. I thought that could be a calendar someday - and here we are a year later - bringing this Annus horribilis to a close. This trip was the last time I ventured more than 150 miles from home - and I'm eager to get out at some point in mid-2021 to go SOMEWHERE. ANYWHERE. Again.
