New 13-inch MacBook Pro.

Neither G.Skill nor ASRock would fess up to my problems, mis-leading me to spend time & money returning my motherboard, which, if you are cynical, requires the extra precaution of proving your CPU socket pins were not bent. Because sometimes motherboard warranters refuse to repair the problem because it is user error. So I got to use my USB microscope that my sister got me from my wishlist for Christmas for an actual live-administrative purpose: Documenting that my pins were not, in fact, bent.

But it turns out the problem was the motherboard has requiresments for RAM configuration that neither G.Skill nor ASrock new. Neither manufacturer new! I'm incredibly unimpressed with both, and will go out of my way -- even paying more money -- to not buy products from ASRock or G.Skill ever again. And that's why I'm tagging the RAM even though it's not actually in the picture -- because it's part of the story here.

BACKSTORY: Building my new computer! We decided to name it Thailog. Thailog ("Goliath" spelled backwards) is the evil twin of Goliath from the cartoon Gargoyles. Carolyn's computer is named after Goliath, so it just makes sense that Clint's computer is the evil twin of Carolyn's± computer. A quick summary of the computer's specs is: Intel Core i7-5820K Haswell-E 6-Core 3.3GHz with an Arctic Freezer I30 cooler on a ASRock X99 WS EATX motherboard with 24G of Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4 2400mHz RAM, a Radeon R9 270 video card, and a Crucial M500 240GB M.2 SSD...all inside a massive NZXT Phantom 820 case. It was a $1560 build, summarized on my blog at clintjcl.wordpress.com/2015/03/06/journal-hardware-purcha...

One of the first business computers

I'm convinced that I can get a really good photo out of the glow this computer makes. I'm not sure that this is the shot. Suggestions welcome.

>.> This is the thing I"m stuck on everyday...and boredom drove me to take a picture of it.

Picture taken August 8, 2008 8.08AM

It's been like this for months, only sometimes it still works, which makes it exciting for me each time I open my laptop, as I never really know what to expect. I've had this thing for almost five years now, it's traveled every single mile I have, gone through a few falls and what not, so all in all I'm not complaining. That said, I AM kinda hoping some exec from Apple sees this and takes pity on me, (as a hardworking, idealistic young social entrepreneur and campaigner) and generously bestows upon me a new one. That would be cool.

I was issued a new computer at work, a Dell Latitude 630 to replace my old 600 whose warranty had expired. Nothing fancy, it works very well for my needs.

this is my little baby... it's so wee!

New App on my iphone! KaleidoVid. Love it!!

I decided I had to let go of some of my old Apple computers. I thought I would take a picture of them before the trip to the dump.

While planning for the picture, I realized that I could represent every major operating system version that Apple released for Macintosh. From a 128k Mac running System 1.0 to a G5 Tower running System 10.4.8.

I also realized that I could find representative applications for each system era.

While I was working with the vintage Macs, I learned that it can be very tricky doing what I had planned. I had hard drives fail after I got them setup, I had bad logic boards, bad floppy drives, bad CRTs. I had to solve networking issues and find a web page that would load on System 8 with Netscape 3. I had to find twenty five year old floppies with working System 1.0 and MacPaint. I had to track down every System disk I had stored around the house.

It is amazing that some of all of these computers still work. Computing has come a long way in the last twenty five years. Apple’s OS X has improved greatly since 2001.

I plan to turn some of the old PowerBooks in to live picture frames. I will post these projects when I complete them.

Finally a list of the equipment:

Note: Apple did not release a System 3 or 4. Check out this site for info.

My bedroom was the box room, so turned the wardrobe into a stable door, so I could put a desk in front of it for my BBC Model B displaying through an old portable TV in the window

The mousepad didn't work either. I had to plug one into the USB all the time. More importantly I was all out of hard drive.

This image was captured using hipstamatic on iphone 4, lit with a regular desktop lamp. Simple but effective.

Little people, big world.

Don't worry, we'll take good care of your computer. It will be as good as new.

Desktop computers were used for class subjects such as math, science, history, and engineering. This allowed students to deal with situations that one most likely would run into in the real world. One computer program that was used for education in history was The Oregon Trail. This game was about the route that the pioneers took to the Pacific Northwest. The students traveled along the rivers and states that the pioneers took. The game also included the illness that the pioneers would have encountered and the students needed to heal them.

The reason I chose Desktop computers is because they really have not been part of education until the most recent years. Computers are now involved in most classes and is part of their teaching process. The relevance of computers is that students now can access information quicker and prepare their essays in more of a professional way. This also allows teachers to be able to organize the schedule faster than before. Computers are emerging and evolving so quickly and they are involved in education in many ways. One way is allowing people like me to be able to attend higher education from my home.
