I may go the 2-screen route. You can grab something on one screen and drag it over to the other one. This is an idea that goes way back to the early days of the Mac, in about 1985, with an Apple spin-off screen that Guy Kawasaki promoted.

My keyboard got bad enough for me to notice, which means it must have been pretty bad. Popping all the keys off with a little screwdriver was the funnest part.
