Sputter coating is a physical vapor deposition (PVD) process that applies a thin, functional layer of material to a substrate. Zhaokun (Brandon) Zhan has cut (Polylactide) PLA nonwovens samples into small pieces and used the Hummer Sputter Coater to add a thin layer (about 5nm) of gold-palladium mixture on their surface. This makes the non-conducting nonwoven samples ready for scanning electron microscope (SEM) imaging.

You need to sew over the edge of your fabric to keep it from unraveling?
