Royal Marines of 45 Commando and Swedish Coastal Rangers on a Stridsbåt 90 H (Combat Boat 90 Half – CB90H) fast military assault craft during a joint Swedish/UK exercise involving raiding a small Swedish island.
Royal Marines of X-Ray Company, 45 Commando and 4 Assault Squadron Royal Marines conducted Baltic Operations (BALTOPS) in Sweden.
Working alongside the Swedish Coastal Rangers (Kustjägarna) from their Berga Naval Base home, X- Ray Company showcased their strengths on the archipelagic Swedish terrain conducting interoperability training, Live Fire Tactical Training and littoral raiding alongside their Swedish partners. This is the first time the Swedish have taken part in BALTOPS as a member of NATO.

The commando monument at Spean Bridge with Ben Nevis in the background. We drive past this monument many times but rarely stop to visit as it can be very busy. On this occasion it was completely empty as it was so early. I hadn't realised that there is a little memorial garden just yards away from the statue and I must confess to being surprised and moved by the memorials placed there, especially for soldiers killed in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. I couldn't help feel that politicians have a lot to answer for, in needlessly wasting such young lives for dubious reasons...
The Commando Memorial is dedicated to the men of the original British Commando Forces raised during World War II.
Situated around a mile from Spean Bridge, it overlooks the training areas of the Commando Training Depot established in 1942 at Achnacarry Castle.
Unveiled in 1952 by the Queen Mother, it has become one of Scotland's best-known monuments, both as a war memorial and as a tourist attraction offering views of Ben Nevis and Aonach Mòr.
Commando Challenge, today the ships company of HMS Ocean sampled life as a Royal Marine in the Commando Challange.
