The library at IPRC takes over the whole front room. It has comics, zines and independently published books from all over the country available for checkout, many of them made right here in Portland.

If you do illustration you can create zines and contribute them to libraries like this one and the one at the public library. I have done this before and actually had people recognize my work that had never met me! I know of a few local artists who have had success with creating zines like BT Livermore and Nicole Georges, who have both gone on to create other products and have a kind of brand to their work.

Once when I was at the IPRC making a comic book I met a woman named Blue who was stapling covers onto issues of Stumptown Underground. She saw some of my illustrations of food and asked me to contribute a drawing to their food issue. I sent them the illustration and never heard back from them until a friend of mine picked up a copy at a party and then called me to tell me that my art had been published. I don't know if it was a good marketing technique or not, but it all evolved from simply being a member at IPRC and going there to work on projects.
