We head back to the lab in Saul's car.
We head out of Denver, passing skyscrapers, office blocks, residential areas and finally, large forest areas.
Allowing him some privacy, I do not mind read him. Instead, I ask him a question:
"Why hide all the way out here?"
He turns right onto a quiet road and looks at me.
"I have reasons."
We continue down the road.
"Things have happened in the past...and let's just say, my work can attract some unwanted attention."
"I assume you're referring to the machine that is responsible for me being here today?"
"Yes."
He focuses his attention on the road.
"And more. But that doesn't matter now."
We drive for a few more minutes, and arrive back at the lab. Saul collects up some belongings as I wait in the car.
After a few minutes, he leaves the lab and locks the door behind him.
"Are you ready?"
"Yes, sorry. Just gathering up some bits."
His "bits" consist of some folders, files and a large leather bound book labelled: Lab Notes
"All set?"
"I am."
"Well then, let us be on our way."
--
Saul's apartment block is in the middle of the city. I follow him along the welcoming corridors as we make our way to his apartment.
He nods to a few passing faces as we reach his door, and pulls some keys out of his pocket.
"Welcome home, John."
He walks into the corridor of his apartment and gestures to me to follow.
He places his lab notes and the other files he retrieved from his lab on a cupboard and turns to me.
"Well. Here we are."
"It's nice."
"It's not much, but, it works."
He continues to give me a guided tour of his apartment, and shows me where I'll be sleeping.
"Is it safe to change back?"
"No, no no no. You need to get used to keeping up your human appearance."
"Understandable."
"I'm sorry, but you have to stay low-key."
He sits down.
"The world already has enough aliens to deal with."
"So I understand."
"One day though. One day the world will find out about you."
--
Four days I've been here now. Saul feeds me, and I stay inside. Sometimes he goes out to the lab and leaves me, but I do not mind.
We sit down to eat.
"I've been thinking."
"Yes?"
"I think you've more than mastered your human form, and,"
He spins spaghetti around his fork.
"and I believe you're more than ready to go out on your own. Without me."
I think through what he is saying.
"Yes. Yes, I think I could do that."
He spins more spaghetti.
"Excellent."
We sit in an awkward silence for a moment.
"Oh, if you're going out on your own, take this."
He gets up and reaches for something on a shelf.
"Take this."
He hands me a small metal device.
"What is this?"
"A mobile phone. It will allow me to communicate with you when you're out."
I take it off him.
"Yes, I've seen these before. It will be most useful if I am to go out alone. Thank you."
"No problem."
He sits back down and focuses his attention on his food.
"Now, eat up."
I too spin spaghetti around my fork.
"You've got a big day ahead of you tomorrow."

So, since I moved back to Indiana, I've been staying with my Grandma until I find a place of my own.
I'm trying to help her clean and declutter and have come across so interesting stuff...like these comics. Most are Archie Comics, but there are a few horror comics and the one Spiderman. Also two old issues of Mad Magazine

" ... But other than conferences, the most intensive group engagement with scientific research is still the face-to-face journal club. What are they like then, and what works well? Food might increase attendance “and conviviality” - but given how passionate or social it can get, alcohol might not be the best idea!...."
