♂️ Piranga flava, now Piranga lutea
(Tooth-billed Tanager / Cardenal Montañero)
Hepatic Tanager is the most widely distributed Piranga tanager, ranging from the southwest United States south to northern Argentina. Its English name is based on the liver-red color of the adult male from the northern part of the species' range; however, its scientific name, flava, meaning "yellow," derives from the original description, which is based on a female from Paraguay. These names reflect both a characteristic of the genus Piranga, marked sexual dichromatism, and the broad range of coloration, habitat, and behavior encompassed within the Hepatic Tanager as currently recognized.
Even though the Hepatic Tanager is currently considered one species, much evidence, including a recent study of molecular genetics, indicates that up to 3 species could be recognized, corresponding to the 3 groups of subspecies combined long ago. These groups and their respective species names are the Hepatic Tanager (P. hepatica) of montane pine-oak forests from the southwestern United States to Nicaragua, the Tooth-billed Tanager (P. lutea) of forest edges in foothills and mountains from Costa Rica to northern and western South America, and the Red Tanager (P. flava) of open woodlands of eastern and southeastern South America.

This is a combination of two captures taken one after the other. The bottom half was captured at 30 seconds smoothing out the whipped up water from the intense wind at sunset with the passing front, and I liked the 30 seconds exposure, but also want to roughly freeze the motion of the clouds, as they were extremely pretty there in the sky to, but moving very fast. Having the 9 Stop ND on for the long exposure, I did not want to waste time taking the ND filter off, so just quickly changed the aperture to f/4 and then captured the scene at 4 seconds. Thus the top half of the exposure (the sky) is at 4 seconds.

Well, as we just ate selfmade buns I thought I should post once more this weekend to water your mouths.
These are also the pictures that lured me back into photography after a half year long pause. It was refreshing for the mind and body I would say. :)
Happy Sunday to all of you!
I have two main passions in my life, my photography and my love of the game of golf. It is very very seldom that I combine the two but here perhaps I had an opportunity. This was taken on my iPhone on a foggy morning on the golf course where I am a member. For once I really would have rather been out with my camera in a woodland somewhere than on the course with my clubs but I tried to make the best of it with this phone shot.
The modern combined harvester, or simply combine, is a versatile machine designed to efficiently harvest a variety of grain crops. The name derives from its combining four separate harvesting operations—reaping, threshing, gathering, and winnowing—into a single process. Among the crops harvested with a combine are wheat, rice, oats, rye, barley, corn (maize), sorghum, soybeans, flax (linseed), sunflowers and rapeseed. The separated straw, left lying on the field, comprises the stems and any remaining leaves of the crop with limited nutrients left in it: the straw is then either chopped, spread on the field and ploughed back in or baled for bedding and limited-feed for livestock.
This is my first decor pic since forever, but I really loved these colors for Christmas and actually felt a bit inspired. So, here's a mix of some of my favorite holiday items, new & old. I hope you all enjoy the holiday season if you celebrate!

Each month the FFF Snap Happy group offers three themes that you can use individually or combined. This months themes are "All Creatures Great and Small", "Orange" and "Water". I decided to try and combine all three.
Sheltering on the orange rose inside out of the rain seemed the sensible thing to do.

7 Years ago we find CMQ 3812 North hauling the Pan Am OCS from Northern Maine Jct to BVJ, then west across the Moosehead and Sherbrooke Subs to Farnham, Quebec.
At Farnham a VTR GP40-2 was added and the train ran down to East Deerfield where the VTR power was cut off and the train continued back to Maine.
The intent of the trip was to open up a new gateway, with Pan Am's successful bid to get trackage rights to White River Jct. Along with VTR's Washington County RR and the CMQ, the plan was to reopen the embargoed Saint-Guillaume Sub which hadn't seen a train since the MMA days, to connect with CN at Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec.
The plan was for freight to be interchanged with CN then, run to Farnham, down to Newport, then to White River Jct over WACR, to Pan Am at WRJ, then to East Deerfield and points south. Ideally, competing with SLR, NECR, CP and to some extent CSX's routing. However things never panned out.
The following year Fortress sold CMQ to CP which had little interest in the plan. Pan Am was sold in 2020 to CSX and taken over in 2022. Effectively putting an end to the proposed route.

I am not sure why this combine has been here in the grass along the field for some time-perhaps abandoned or waiting for the harvest. I know it was used last fall. I don't get up early for morning shots much any more since I am back to working almost full time again.
This Cemetery is a combined municipal and military burial ground situated in the coastal town of Deal, Kent, in South East England. Opened in May 1856, it was created to provide a new burial ground for Deal at a time when its general population was expanding and when previous, often ad hoc facilities for dealing with deaths in the area no longer sufficed.
The cemetery's civilian burials are managed by Dover Council, and its military burials by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. It contains a Cross of Sacrifice of some significance and the burials of military service personnel from Great Britain, Belgium, Canada, and, very unusually, Nazi Germany, many of whom took part in some of the most famous incidents in World War I and World War II, including: the Gallipoli Campaign, the Battle of the Somme, the 1918 Zeebrugge Raid, the Battle of Dunkirk, the Battle of the Denmark Strait and sinking of HMS Hood, the Battle of Britain, and the more modern tragedy of the Deal barracks bombing in September 1989.
It also contains 66 local civilian war dead from World War II killed by German bombing and shelling between 1940 and 1945, 127 military burials from World War I (including three unidentified Naval ratings), and 54 from World War II.
There is a small mortuary chapel associated with the cemetery, but no dedicated church as such.
I didn’t get the opportunity to visit the military war graves but hope to go back This is the Chapel building
MY THANKS FOR ALL VISITS COMMENTS ETC IT IS APPRECIATED
the one that makes me forget about my diet, definitely my favorite cake!! that fresh taste of blueberries combined with cream cheese frosting is a great culinary hit.
This combine harvester survived the field fire. The farmer moved the machine to a part of the field that was already blackened by the fire thus ensuring the fire didn't manage to destroy the vehicle.
