On August 6, 2025, an introductory workshop was held in Damascus as part of the "Road to Resilience: Making Rural Agricultural Communities in Syria More Viable (RRMACS)" project. The event brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, the Directorate of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Agriculture, directors of agriculture from the governorates of Aleppo, Hama, Tartous, Homs, and Rural Damascus, directors of the Humanitarian Coordination Office in the Central and Southern Regions, as well as representatives from international and regional organizations such as the World Food Organization (FAO), the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD), and the Syrian Organization for Development. The primary objective of the workshop was to introduce the RRMACS project to these stakeholders, provide an overview of its goals, discuss the main challenges currently facing the agricultural sector in Syria, and identify practical opportunities for coordination and collaboration to ensure effective and impactful implementation. This activity is part of the broader RRMACS initiative, which aims to enhance the resilience of rural agricultural communities in Syria—particularly focusing on women and youth—by equipping them to better cope with economic instability and environmental shocks. The project is funded by Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KFW) and implemented by AKF.
