I've been fighting a cold, determined not to let it get the better of me but the wretched thing snuck up on me when I had my guard down...so honey and lemon is the order of the day. We were meant to be going away for the New Year but since I have this cold and my poor husband has a really bad bout of gout, we are staying home :( I hope you are all keeping bug free and have a happy, healthy and prosperous 2017! I'm quite behind with commenting hoping to catch up soon.
For Macro Mondays theme "Remedy", these are some tablets of a product called Airborne leaning against some Dayquil, which alleviates some of the symptoms of a cold. Airborne is dissolved in a glass of water (like Alkaseltzer) and provides large amounts of zinc, vitamin C and other things said to reduce the severity and length of a cold. With my upcoming travel schedule I may need these.
……. Time to chill for Jill & I for sure but we really do miss our boys (Son & Grandson) - the Piano lays silent😢 - no Lego to negotiate on the floor, though we did find a rather strange Lego creation on the Christmas tree afterwards😄! That’s not the only thing they left us with - the clue is in the picture💊! So that’s my penultimate #364 shot of the day - Achoo……. However we’re sad to say little Erroll has now gone down with Chicken Pox, bless him, we wish him well down there in London……Alan:-)

My prayers for a wonderful and safe New Year 2017, filled with blessings, happiness, and fulfillment to you and yours, my dear Flickr friends...:))
Here is a pot of ginger tea on the stove. It was simmered for hours with real ginger root in water. After it cooled. I added powdered Ginger, All Spice, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Cardamon, Vanilla extract, and a dash of Cayenne. My Mother, of blessed memory, used Paprika instead of Cayenne. I often use Paprika, however, I saw Cayenne first today.

I think cameras from Canon, Nikon, Sony, etc, will evolve to keep up with the fabulous and innovative 2 lens camera of Apple's new iPhone 7 Plus. it is amazing! I believe it was invented by an Israeli company that Apple acquired.
I remember, before SLR film cameras were invented, the best cameras had two identical lenses, one for the viewfinder and one for the sensor, that was the film. Now the sensor is a chip or set of chips.

#5525 - 2023 Day 46/365: I've gone down with a heavy cold this week. I notice that remedies are tending to be yellow ...
My cold remedy, hot water, lemon, honey, cinnamon, ginger, sage and thyme brew... Nice to the taste, soothing to the throat. In the evening, add an optional dash of rhum to help you go to sleep!

one thing that struck me when we went to see the rembrandt exhibition was that in most of the dutch still life paintings of the period that had lemons in them, they were peeled in this fashion. I wonder why...
Another special something from mother nature's medicine cabinet.
I'm trying to decide if I can market this on etsy. I'm going to have to make a couple of trial runs to see if I can afford to pack it on dry ice, and IF packing it on dry ice will be enough to keep it frozen. Otherwise, I might have to sell it as a mix or just list the recipe.
Pomegranate juice, acai berry juice, raw honey, echinacea, and astragalus team up to make an antioxidant-rich, immune-boosting, sore throat soothing, antiseptic, sour-sweet get better super sorbet. Perfect for coughs, colds, sore throats, laryngitis, stomach ailments, and tonsil surgery recovery. Why settle for fakey colored jello or artificially flavored store-bought sherbert when you can heal your body with nutrition and herbs straight from the earth herself?
Each serving contains a child-sized dose of echinacea and astragalus (adults can have double) and enough vitamin C to kill the hardiest of viruses...up to three servings per day. Available without honey for our vegan friends.

Although recently named one of the 113 Funniest People in America, Olivia Munn knows having a cold is no laughing matter. We've spotted her with Cold-EEZE in NYC while promoting her spread in in the January issue of FHM Magazine.

The Finns have a saying - if sauna or vodka can't cure it then it's probably fatal.
Well, I've tried the sauna and that helped. The alcohol will shortly be combined with this lemon.
Yep, I went to bed with a scratchy throat and woke up feeling like I was swallowing golf balls.
I'll get over it. :)
The Blackfoot used the roots as a cold remedy. The rest of the plant is poisonous.

Many know that Eucalyptus tea made from the flower leaves' oil is a powerful cough medicine used for optimal health and as a preventive medicine..
But did you know of the Eucalyptus Martini?
The Eucalyptus Martini cocktail is the creation of Humberto Marques, mixologist at Oloroso is Edinburgh, Scotland. Using eucalyptus syrup from the flower herb oil makes the drink refreshing in its sweetness.
Tomitheos' Floating Flower Purple Petals Drink:
Using my own Herbs and Spices in the Cocktail Mixology, I've created my own concoction with a unique recipe using Tanqueray Gin (believed to be the purest alcohol) and by adding the following ingredients:
in every 75 ml Tanqueray Gin add..
30 ml homemade eucalyptus syrup
15 ml lime juice
Cinnamon Stick
and Crushed Ice
Preparation:
Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with the crushed ice.
Shake well.
Double strain into a large martini glass.
Garnish with cinnamon stick and floating eucalyptus flower or leaf.

I rarely get sick, but when I do you can expect me to fall of the face of the earth for at least a day. That was yesterday. I had a fever and slept for almost the entire day.
I'm not a fan of taking medicine, either, save for the 2 gummy Vitamin C's I take every day to prevent days like yesterday. After tag-teaming DayQuil, NyQuil, Sudafed, and Claritin, I think I've just about kicked this thing.
And, as proof that I don't take medicine/get sick all that often, this morning when I when I was slightly more lucid, I checked the expiration date on the various boxes that were next to my bed. Some expired in 2006. Yes, when I was a freshman. Luckily they didn't kill me, but it did warrant a nice little excursion to Target to re-stock!

Moo has had a sore throat* recently and on top of that she is having a bad ear day. To cheer herself up she has decided to make a Hot Toddy.
Sensibly she is going to use the microwave to heat her water as the electric kettle is rather big for her to use. You'd bettter not use that Glenfiddich though, that's Nick's special bottle.
Recipe:
2 fluid oz whisky
juice of half a lemon
3.5 tablespoons boiling water
1 teaspoon of honey
* When someone presses Moo's tummy she shouts "C'Mon". Some of you may know that she plays keyboards in a the band called the C.M.O.N.S.
Unfortunately Moo has been sounding rather hoarse recently.

I got back in Bemidji again and had a runny/stuffy nose and headache to accompany me... I don't know where it came from, but it hasn't been too bad, and like all illnesses, we have our remedies to help us through.
Don't worry, I didn't feel as icky as my expression may lead you to believe, I was partly being silly. :-P
Oh, and the piece of paper reads the following: "Px: take several z's at night and whenever tired. (*possible* side effects: loss of consciousness, drooling, sleep talking, and death)

Join us in wishing Sasha Cohen a happy birthday! Here's a great behind-the-scenes photo of her and our CEO, Ted. The 2006 Olympic Silver Medalist is one of the marvelous skaters at the Cold-EEZE Improv-Ice. We won’t reveal too much about her spectacular performance, but Ted tells us he thinks she skated with a grace and skill well beyond her 26 years. Happy Birthday, Sasha!

...Enough for me, you'd think
But it's all gone past its expiry date
So I tipped it down the sink...
Desperate for some relief from the racking cough and streaming nose and eyes, I grabbed everything I could from my medicine drawer at home - only to discover that ALL of it is well past its use-by date!
I'll have to make do with honey and lemon in hot water instead, until I can get to a pharmacist tomorrow...
When you caught a cold, there's nothing like a good hot bath to warm you up...
Quand vous avez attrapé froid, il n'y a rien de tel qu'un bon bain chaud pour vous réchauffer ...
