When Coit Tower was completed in 1933, its interior consisted of over 3,000 square feet of blank wall space. But in early 1934, the building became the pilot project of the Public Works of Art Project (PWAP), and offshoot of the Civil Works Administration
While the structure itself is not a New Deal project, San Francisco’s Coit Tower is the site of a large number of stunning New Deal murals and paintings. Twenty-five artists, supervised by Diego Rivera-trained muralist Victor Arnautoff and funded by PWAP, painted fresco murals on the interior of the tower. The themes of the murals are labor and California life during the Great Depression.
Coit Tower is lit blue in honor of the Golden State Warriors, who were in the 2016-17 NBA play-offs (and won the championship)
Along the way as one climbs are beautiful little cottages and wonderful gardens. Getting there is just as great as the arrival!

Photographing down Filbert Street in San Francisco, CA after parking and before turning around and walking up to Coit Tower.
It was Friday late night half moon setting over the orange Coit tower. The weather was bit clear and moon was visible at that time. it was about the similar shot I took two years ago with a crescent moon. This time the moon was bit larger :)

We went to San Francisco to attend the Step AI conference. It took place adjacent to Pier 39, which a busy tourist place. From the rooftop of the conference building we had a nice view of the city skyline, with the moon rising above Coit Tower in the south-east.
I processed a balanced and a paintery HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

The tower, in the city's Pioneer Park, was built between 1932 and 1933 using Lillie Hitchcock Coit's bequest to beautify the city of San Francisco.

It was a big moon up in the sky :) I took this shot was at Fort Point faced Coit tower. That was a clear sky with a little touch of clouds at that time. This was a very lucky snapshot in such weather condition.
It is all in perspective to see the moon. At Fort Point to Coit tower is 3.911 miles away. The moon will look big with a long lens shot from the far distance with the ground building. In the reality, the moon size is about the same size every month. I can't tell the difference :)

Sunday morning I was up early in the Headlands taking low fog photos of the Golden Gate Bridge. Sunday night, I paid my first visit to this really cool spot underneath the Bay Bridge.
I did the hike up from Treasure Island and then made my way down the hillside next to the bridge. What a view it is once you get to this point!
I wanted to get the city of San Francisco, painted in Orange for the Giants. You can see a bit of the color if you look closely, but I didn't quite get the dramatic orange glow I was hoping for.
Either way, this is a really interesting perspective of San Francisco and the Bay Bridge, and I'm glad I finally got to check it out.

Originally named "Loma Alta" ("High Hill") by the Spaniards and "Goat Hill" by the early San Franciscans, Telegraph Hill (as it came to be called) is one of 44 hills in San Francisco and one of the original "Seven Hills of San Francisco". The hill owes its current name to a windmill-like structure that was erected in September, 1849 for the purpose of signaling to the rest of the city the nature of ships entering the Bay. A redundant signal station was built at Point Lobos in 1853 and that, along with the advent of the electrical telegraph in 1862, made the system obsolete. Though the station was eventually taken down, the hill retained its name.
In 1933, at the bequest of Lillie Hitchcock Coit (1843-1929), a tower was built atop the hill in order to beautify the City she loved. Coit Tower took five years to build and today offers fantastic views of the City. The tower was built by Arthur Brown Jr. and Henry Howard, who designed many other buildings throughout the city and state. Contrary to popular belief, the tower isn’t designed to look like a fire hose nozzle, though it is a monument to volunteer firefighters.
