St Nicholas church found at Bristol Bridge is a curfew clock and at 9pm would sound 14 times to tell the occupiers living on Bristol bridge to empty their sewage into the river and douse all fires. it is also one of the few church clocks that has an insert seconds dial

“When I do count the clock that tells the time,
And see the brave day sunk in hideous night;
When I behold the violet past prime,
And sable curls all silver'd o'er with white;
When lofty trees I see barren of leaves
Which erst from heat did canopy the herd,
And summer's green all girded up in sheaves
Borne on the bier with white and bristly beard,
Then of thy beauty do I question make,
That thou among the wastes of time must go,
Since sweets and beauties do themselves forsake
And die as fast as they see others grow;
And nothing 'gainst Time's scythe can make defence
Save breed, to brave him when he takes thee hence.”

Fade Away by Cica Ghost:
This clock would many advantages while one is sitting in the garden, Ie, time to get dinner underway ... Too much to do, can't sit out here all day ... Time to pick the kids up from school ... Time to put the kettle on (again) ... This crossword's taking ages to finish.
The list goes on.
But it does make a nice garden feature.
The new clocks hung on trees by main pathways as you enter Hawk Wood are really useful for dog walkers and other forest users.
It's clear from the tree that they love us.

Located at the end of the beautiful promenade in La Rochelle, France is the "Great ClocK" (Porte de la Gros-Horloge), which is the gateway to the old town. It has a 12th century base and an octagonal Bell Tower original built in 1478 but rebuilt in 1746. Taken from across the Vieux Port.
