The small section of Clinton, IA between US Hwy 30 and the giant ADM mill has been marked for demolition. The houses have been abandoned by their former owners, and the heavy machinery have already made short work of several residences. I assume they are making way for a plant expansion, or perhaps the new organic plastic plant. Most of South Clinton has already been torn down to make way for the giant golden dome at the Co-Gen plant, and this small neighborhood looks to follow shortly. Hopefully ADM bought these houses from the owners before the county declared eminent domain, and hopefully the organic plastics plant pans out like they are hoping it will. For more info see:

The moated manor house of Baddesley Clinton, located just north of the historic town of Warwick in the English county of Warwickshire, was probably established sometime in the 13th century.

In 1438, John Brome, the Under-Treasurer of England, bought the manor. It then passed to his son, Nicholas, who is thought to have built the east range, which is the main entrance. Nicholas is also responsible for the extensive rebuilding of the nearby parish church dedicated to St. Michael, done as penance for killing the parish priest, a murder reputed to have taken place in the great house itself. The house from this period was equipped with gun-ports, and possibly a drawbridge. When Nicholas Brome died in 1517, the house passed to his daughter, who married Sir Edward Ferrers (High Sheriff of Warwickshire) in 1500. The house remained in the ownership of the Ferrers family until 1940 when it was purchased by Thomas Walker, a relative of the family who changed his name to Ferrers. His son, who inherited in 1970, sold the estate in 1980 to the National Trust, who now manage it.

Jan 15 - The Senate seat that was left vacant after last year's death of Ted Kennedy is going to be filled in a special election next Tuesday. And the race for that seat has gotten quite tight. Some polls have the Republican candidate with a lead and others have the lead going to the Democratic candidate.

With that trend occurring, the Massachusetts Democrats are pulling in some heavy hitters for campaign support. Today, former President Bill Clinton appeared at a rally for Martha Coakley. Reportedly, President Obama will be in town over the weekend to show his support as well.

Clinton is a town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States, located on the South Branch of the Raritan River. As of the 2010 United States Census, the town's population was 2,719, reflecting an increase of 87 (+3.3%) from the 2,632 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 578 (+28.1%) from the 2,054 counted in the 1990 Census. Despite its relatively small population, Clinton is the predominant control city for Interstate 78 heading west from Newark.

When the Clinton post office was established in 1829, it was named for DeWitt Clinton, Governor of New York and the primary impetus behind the then-newly completed Erie Canal.

The town is perhaps best known for its two mills which sit on opposite banks of the South Branch Raritan River. The Red Mill, with its historic village, dates back to 1810 with the development of a mill for wool processing. Across the river sits the Stone Mill, home of the Hunterdon Art Museum for Contemporary Craft and Design, located in a former gristmill that had been reconstructed in 1836 and operated continuously until 1936. In 1952, a group of local residents conceived of a plan to convert the historic building into an art museum, which is still in operation today.

Described by The New York Times in 1988 as having "conquered the worst residential radon hotspot known in the United States" which resulted from uranium in the limestone under sections of the town, Clinton and mayor-at-the-time Robert A. Nulman received state, national, and international attention for the town's successful efforts to combat the radon using ventilation systems in affected homes.
