The Jonathan Price Home - 1854 - 7905 Main Street
NRHP added 2002 - Building - #02001103
From the Clinton Historical Society website:
"One of the most ornate houses in Summit County, this home reflects the degree of prosperity that the Ohio & Erie Canal brought to the small community of Clinton."
Affectionately known locally as "The Gingerbread House", it occupies a prominent location on the corner of Main and Fulton Streets.
The Gothic Revival style is a 19th century adaptation of the late Medival forms of architecture. It is credited to Alexander Jackson Davis who popularized Gothic Revival through his Pattern Books, notably, "The Architecture of Cottage Houses" 1850.
Characteristics include steeply sloped gable roof with fish-scale shingles and Board and Batten siding with chamfered edges. A prominent, scrolled verge board skirts the bottom of the projective eave around the core section of the building. The gable apex is marked by a central finial with pyramid shaped top, chamfered edges and a bun pendant. The foundation consists of dressed and cut sandstone which evidence chisel marks. The flat roofed front porch canopy is supported by two Doric columns. The trabeated entryway features a four light transom and three paneled paired sidelights. The "outhouse", which is extant, also has a steeply pitched roof and fish-scale shingles. The total cost of construction, including the lot ($48) was $1,056.
The 1854 Mathews and Tainton Atlas contains a street map of Clinton and references the home owner "John" Price, General Merchandise and Coal Merchant. His office is believed to have been located on Lot 57 on North Street. He also owned a few lots that lined the Canal Basin on Water Street which served as a "parking lot" for Canal Boats.
The house represents the influence of ideas beyond the local area that also arrived via the Canal Boats along with those passengers and goods. It testifies to the owner's status in the community and level of sophistication that Mr. Price expressed through the design and construction."

Millards have been selling motorbikes since their first sale in the UK in 1887 and on Guernsey since 1908. Throughout their history, they have always been led by a family member and Clinton and his sister Sophie are the current family involved in the business.
They believe that they are the oldest motorcycle shop in the world and would love to hear from you if you know otherwise.
They are currently stockists for Mutt, Royal Enfield, Suzuki, Vespa, Piaggio and Benelli.
On November 12, 1996, President Clinton signed into law the Omnibus Parks and Public Lands Management Act of 1996. With it, two segments of Elkhorn Creek, totaling 6.4 miles, became part of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System.
East of Salem, Oregon, on the west side of the Cascade Mountains, Elkhorn Creek is a subwatershed to the North Fork Santiam River and flows into the Little North Santiam River just below Elkhorn Woods Park. If you’ve ever hiked from the popular Opal Creek trailhead, you’ve driven very close to it!
The BLM manages Elkhorn Creek from the Willamette National Forest boundary downstream, until it enters private property about a quarter mile from its confluence with the Little North Santiam River.
Why is Elkhorn Creek so special? Every wild and scenic river must possess what are called Outstandingly Remarkable Values, and Elkhorn Creek’s include its fantastic scenery and wildlife.
Scenic qualities of the creek’s meandering corridor include a range of features from vertical rock outcrops to dense, relatively undisturbed and mature forest.
Along the creekside habitat, visitors to the Elkhorn Creek area will find big-leaf maple, red alder, Douglas-fir, Western hemlock, and Western redcedar trees, with understory shrub layers of vine maple, huckleberries, salal, Oregon grape, and sword ferns.
Upper Willamette River winter-run steelhead trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and spring Upper Willamette River chinook salmon (O. tshawytscha) - both listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act - inhabit lower Elkhorn Creek, as do coastal cutthroat trout (O. clarki clarki), and sculpins (Cottus spp.).
Oregon slender salamanders can be found in the adjacent Douglas-fir stands, as can number of bat species of concern associated with caves and mines, bridges, buildings, cliff habitat, or large snags with sloughing bark.
Throughout much of the Elkhorn’s route, little evidence of human intrusion into the creek’s corridor is present, and it is accessible by roads in only two places.
To learn more about Elkhorn Creek and other area resources, contact the BLM Northwest Oregon District Office at (503) 375-5646.

A recent campaign stop with Hillary Clinton. Chelsea came along with America Fererra, the star of Ugly Betty.
Bill Clinton visited and made a speech in Dundalk in December 2000. This piece, named Rhyme And Reason by sculptor, Sandra Bell is in memory of that visit. It is located at the Square in the town centre. At the time I remember reading that the last time there was as many people in the town was in 1880 but I forget what it was for.
The Courthouse is in the background!
