Description: The sculpture "Clients" was commissioned by the State of Florida for the Curtis Peterson State Office Building in downtown Lakeland. This work was done by artist Meredith William King and completed in 1987. The sculpture consists of stick figures, six adults and three children, arranged in four groups. One group has an adult leading two children by the hand. Another group has one adult leading one child by the hand. A third group shows two adults facing each other, in conversation, one leaning against a support. Two adults walking separately, one with a cane, complete the total sculpture. The groups are spaced about six to twelve feet apart. They can be viewed forward or backward and indicate a coming and going. They depict a range of "clients" from old to young, from healthy to disabled. The adult figures are 12-13 feet high and the children 6 feet. The sculpture was supposed to be in keeping with the function of the building which housed staff from the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services.

Can Do Canines graduated 14 assistance teams at our facility in New Hope on Saturday, June 10, 2017. Clients received diplomas in recognition of graduating from Can Do Canines assistance dog program and the dogs received “doggie diplomas” (Nylabones). Various breeds of assistance dogs that graduated help people with a variety of disabilities such as diabetes, seizure response, hearing loss, mobility and autism.
The Graduation Ceremony represents the culmination of a long journey for the assistance dogs and their partners. Beginning with puppy raisers, either in the homes of volunteers or at one of six Minnesota and Wisconsin prisons, the dogs are reared and taught basic obedience and early assistance dog skills. After 18 months, they’re returned to Can Do Canines for final training and to begin their new life with a person in need, free of charge.
