Wrapped and decorated in modeling chocolate for a client's 50th. It was a hot day and the modeling chocolate just wasn't cooperating. The design isn't as sharp as I'd like it, but I'm happy it managed to come together in time for the celebration.

My client's white poodle enjoyed the use of the human-powered doggie door during our meeting on Wednesday.
I discovered a reason for Skye's eagerness to go outside and then come back inside -- he's been trained to expect a rawhide pig's ear as a reward when he returns from the out-of-doors!
"Is that a literal pig's ear?" I cringed as my client threw it to the dog. I guess the family pet is not vegetarian.

From a verbal brief of concept with style/mood boards, create a space for demonstrating and selling the client's skin care product range. As well as having a Photo Gallery open to the public, it must also contain a live Photographer's Studio for taking customers portraits, along with a Makeup Artist's area. There should also be a waiting area café to relax and have refreshments.

I've been working at a client's premises all day - a potato merchant's in Warwickshire and as the day was drawing to a close I saw there was a decent sunset. I made my excuses and darted out to get my camera (unfortunately I don't usually take the Canon with me during the week so I had to make do with the Casio and a bit of photostitch).
The merchant's trucks are clearly visible on the right. They're too large to clone and I didn't want to loose the part of the sky directly over the trucks, so I left them in - a reminder of where I was when the photo was taken.
The site is located near the center of Tokyo. It is a small 44m2 corner plot bounded by two streets. Conforming to legal conditions and in response to the client’s wish for a ‘roofed garage’ the volume was trimmed from various directions. Using the words ‘Mineral’ and ‘reflection’ as guiding concepts, Atelier Tekuto proceeded to use subtraction as a positive tool for design.
MINERAL
Minerals are phenomena that combine abstract properties (conceptual objects) with nonfigurative properties (objects whose presence of matter is more tangible). Changes from transparent to translucent to opaque occur according to light intensity and angle. The mineral body cannot be regarded as a simple element.
REFLECTION
Reflection is a recent concept pertaining to the perception of space. Vision is an important factor in the recognition of space. By controlling geometries (facets with three factors: transparent, translucent and opaque) and entangling them in a three-dimensional way inside the internal space, visual reflection is induced. This results in a deviation from the restrictiveness of space.
As people move inside the space, or as light enters from changing angles, the facet’s presence changes, creating a dynamic space. In contrast to the abstractness of the polyhedron are the kitchen, counter shelf, stairs, floors and toilet box equipped with functionality that exist as nonfigurative objects. The third floor bathroom unit features a mirror finish in stainless steel, which combines both concepts of object and reflection, and presents itself as a substitution of both ‘minerals’ and ‘reflection’.
The Relationship with the surrounding environment is expressed in the small plaza open to the street, a piloti like space that emerged after placing the garage on ground floor. Its liberating feeling might trigger some change in the surrounding streetscape.

Earth Designs Garden Design and Build were asked to created a landscape and propose garden design in South Woodford, Essex here are the details of the project.
The Colourful Garden in South Woodford, Essex
BRIEF:
This space was a fairly blank canvas, containing few features other than a lawn, an old log-roll raised bed, and a large, well constructed garden shed. The area adjoining the house had recently been block paved, and this was to be integrated into the design. The client wanted a bold and vibrant garden that functioned on several levels - including a football pitch for their children and a sociable area for the adults.
SOLUTION:
To accommodate the client’s love of colour, and in keeping with the style of the interior of the house, the design was based around blocks of vivid orange or blue, taking inspiration from the abstract artist, Mondrian. The existing shed and fruit tree were removed to allow the construction of main social area of the space.
This comprised an area of decking bordered on two sides by a long, L-shaped fixed bench seat, backed by lush planting in raised rendered block beds to create a relaxing, social focus to the space. Provision for al fresco dining was given with the inclusion of a large decking table, with a moveable decked box on casters providing seating for the client’s children.
The block paving directly outside the house was integrated into the rest of the garden with the addition of several rendered block planters of various heights and dimensions. These were painted either orange or blue on different surfaces and planted with tall architectural specimens or low ground covering plants to give variation to the heights and perspective at play in the space.
A high rendered block bed at the bottom of the garden provides a dramatic frame to space, and also serves as a sturdy goal for impromptu football matches. A further low raised bed running down the left hand side of the garden ties the back of the space into the main area. This bed terminates in a higher raised bed to the left of the decked area, which acts a frame for
a stunning stainless steel water wall.
Planting in the space is strong and architectural, and chosen for year round interest with the inclusion of bamboo, spiky cordylines, tall grasses, and orange and blue flowering plants such as hosta and crocosmia tying the planting into the
overall colour scheme.
A dramatic yet functional lighting scheme adds the finishing touches to the space. Brick lighting illuminates the lawn area,
with strong spotlights providing an overall wash to the garden while picking out selected specimen plants in the beds. Blue LED deck lights cuff the edge of the decking, giving an outline to the central entertaining area. Finally, three blue neon stick lights placed in the planters on the block paving provide an unusual, eye-catching, entrance to the space.
TESTIMONIAL:
"We would like to take this opportunity in thanking the whole team. From the very initial consultation with Kat, we managed to work together in the overall design of the garden. You have so many great and inspirational ideas we wish we had more space in our garden to use more of them!!! Then from the drawing to the actual implementation of the garden, taking on a
whole new identity. The space you provided is both great for the children and most importantly for the adult entertaining.
The general feedback from our friends and neighbours has been great. The whole team worked so hard through, sunshine, rain and a lot of wind all mixed together on some days. You managed to stick through it all and deliver us more than what we expected. We would like to thank you all and wish you all the very best of luck in the future."

I am lucky to be the Project Architect for one of the towers (4G11 - The Ministry of Women, Family, and Community Development). The four towers are expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2011.
Will try to get a better shot and view of the four towers from the Boulevard area soon.

Earth Designs Garden Design and Build were asked to created a landscape and propose garden design in Hackney, London*. Here are the details of the project
The Party Garden in Hackney, London E9
BRIEF:
This space was a completely blank canvas, with sound fences to the right and a high brick wall to the left.
The client requested a ‘wow’ garden, one that is funky and stylish yet also practical and inviting, with good provision for socialising and the possibility for the inclusion of a hot tub spa.
SOLUTION:
This design sought to transform the garden from an urban wasteland into a sub-tropical party oasis and split the garden into two distinct areas. At once elegant and stylish, playful and accommodating, the space would be equally suited to intimate dining or large-scale entertaining. The colour palette is aubergine, lime and sand.
The area directly outside the back door is designed to serve as a functional utility area, with a purpose built storage unit slotted into the gap to the left of the steps and space allowed to accommodate the client’s gas barbeque.
The first section of the garden consists of two areas of slate paving, split by a decked walkway that zig-zags down the space. To the left, running partway along the existing brick wall, is fixed bench seating comprising purple rendered concrete block walls and a deck board seat. The existing wall itself was rendered behind the seat and painted purple. A moveable decking table and decking cubes on castors were constructed in this area to provide a variety of al fresco dining possibilities.
Two large rectangular stainless steel planters planted with tall bamboo split the first section of the garden from the second. The second section consists of a large, partially sunken hot tub to the right and an area of decking to the left. A large purple rendered block wall serves to square off the bottom of the garden, providing a strong backdrop of colour to the space while an opening to the left of this wall allows access to a small, open-air storage area behind.
Planting is strong and simple. Big specimen architectural plants dominate, including plum leafed spiky phormiums and cordylines. Grasses give motion to the space. Dramatic ‘Black Parrot’ tulips and ‘Black Irises’ contrast with arum lilies to bring elegance and grace to the scheme. Agapanthus will take the stage once the spring flowers have died back and offset the sand grasses and strong plum foliage.
To compete the design, a variety of lighting was included to create a visual cornucopia when the sun goes down. The decking features sunken lights, strategically placed to light key areas. Spot lights in the main beds illuminate the architectural planting to its best advantage, while creating an overall wash to the garden. Finally, six stainless steel downlighters, three on the end wall and three on the side wall, provide effective illumination to the seating area and hot tub.
TESTIMONIAL:
"From the first time we met Kat we knew we had made the right choice. Kat very quickly determined what we wanted and more importantly, what we didn't. After a couple of iterations of design we came to an agreement and very quickly work started. We made it clear from the beginning that we needed Earth Designs to take care of every detail.
Neither of us had the time or the inclination to be involved in the process, other than discussions around design as the project progressed. Due to access restrictions, delivery of all materials and plants required the use of a crane and closure of the road. This included co-coordinating the delivery and installation of the hot tub with the manufacturer. The boys handled everything without issue.
During the construction, the whole team worked very hard in all weathers to get the job done. We gave them a key so we did not have to be around at any point and they could come and go as they pleased. Every day, we hardly knew they were there and each night, they cleaned up before they left.
They were completely trustworthy and always polite and considerate while in our home. The end result is fantastic and meets all our needs. We have a wonderful environment in which to entertain, one to relax in and a spa area to die for."
