Ancienne habitation sucrière depuis la colonisation, c'est aujourd'hui, c'est aujourd'hui une distillerie qui produit les rhums Clément et un site historique et culturel .
St Clement was built in the mid 12th century with a nave and chancel and the aisles were added in 13th century by simply cutting through the thick Norman walls. The interior has a complete set of 18th century fittings including a gallery and box pews. However these are now painted pink following a request from a film company who came to Romney Marsh to make a film based on the smuggling adventure ‘Dr Syn’, written by Russell Thorndike. The film director Derek Jarman is buried in the churchyard.
In common with many of his contemporaries, Adolphe Clément had already amassed a fortune manufacturing bicycles and pneumatic tyres before he turned his hand to motor car manufacture.
His early efforts were light cars powered by Astor, Panhard and, in this case, a 2.25h.p. single-cylinder De Dion engine. In the complex world of early motor manufacture and, in common with Talbot, the name Clément and some of its factories were bought by an English syndicate. Cléments were even made under license in Scotland, by Stirling of Hamilton.

Drum A place in Ireland, Krass Clement, a back room in the famous Andersons pub in Drum Co Monaghan in Ireland. This was the location Krass Clement made the famous book "Drum A Place in Ireland" with 3 rolls of HP5 and a couple of pints one evening. It went on to be hailed as one of the greatest photo books ever created. An original copy is difficult to find and can be very expensive.
My image of the back room was made on the Hasselblad with 60mm lens and Fuji Acros 100. We got to meet Krass when he visited Drum a few years back. A replica by Books On Books is available online.

The is the spiral staircase at St Clement Danes, one of the churches at the western end of The Strand. If the church of the Royal Air Force and was designed to Sir Christopher Wren. Many thanks to Doug for tipping me off about this place.
I've put together a map of spiral staircases in London. If you look at this Google Map you can see the one's I'm aware of. If you've got any that you know of that aren't on the map and you like them added then send me a Flickr mail with the details and I'll add it.
They are so much fun. Every time I see this picture of them I want to do one of those Calvin and Hobbes photo collages where he makes nine different faces.
Terrific Tuesday to you.

This 18th century aqueduct used to bring the city's water over 14 km from the Saint-Clément spring to the water tower in Peyrou.
Thanks to this structure, Montpellier can supply the numerous fountains scattered around the city. The neighborhood surrounding part of the aqueduct, Les Arceaux (the arches) draws its name from the double layer of arches extending over 800m.

The hamlet and area of Mayo was first settled in the mid-1820's by an influx of Irish emigrants, who named it for the county of Mayo in their homeland.
Some fifty years later, the village of Knoc(k) in that county became famous when over a dozen people there saw a vision of the Virgin Mary on the church wall. It quickly became a major draw for Irish and other pilgrims (and has remained so ever since - both Pope John Paul II and Pope Francis have visited).
Fr. Clement Braceland, who took over as parish priest of St. Malachy in 1949, was among those to visit that shrine in Ireland. Upon his return to Quebec, he determined to establish a local version of it, which he saw completed in 1955. It's since become a destination itself, with an annual pilgrimage organized each August that draws many hundreds of the faithful.

A section of Clements Mountain in Glacier National Park. We had to trek through some snow to reach this mountain, in the summer!
