Taking part in an active environmental community is paramount which is why we not only organise our own beach cleanup events but also help out whenever we are invited to join other organisations or groups who organise events which share our goals and dreams!
More than 700 volunteers cleared the James River and its banks of trash and recyclables on Sept. 10, 2016. The cleanup covered 17 sites in the cities of Richmond, Newport News, Petersburg and Lynchburg, and Chesterfield, Henrico, Goochland, Powhatan, Appomattox, Buckingham, Charles City and Isle of Wight counties. This is the 17th year for the cleanup, which is organized by the James River Advisory Council, jrac-va.org.

Today’s Pearl district graffiti cleanup was a huge success with three community volunteers pitching in. Tom Tullai, John Banton and George Ranum of Vancouver, WA heard about Rogue’s graffiti removal efforts in the Oregonian’s Arts and Entertainment section and decided to get in on the action. Tom, John and George were thanked with Rogue gift bags and were ushered into the pub after the cleanup for a few pints. Outside Deschutes Brewery, the Rogue team caught the attention of diners and wait staff alike who gawked at the scene through restaurant windows. General Manager Mike Rowan even came outside to check out the action! His attempt at coercing us into cleaning the Deschutes bathroom was unsuccessful, but he did thank us for our community efforts.

The Patapsco Heritage Greenway hosted a cleanup day at the Avalon Area to continue restoration efforts from the flood in late July.

This past weekend Wendy and I participated in Washington CoastSaver's coastal cleanup at Point Grenville. Point Grenville is located within the Quinault Indian Nation and will be the host of this year's Tribal Canoe Journey.

These photos show our wonderful volunteers hard at work cleaning up the Historic Bread and Cheese Creek. On 4/5/14 - 167 volunteers removed 285 trash bags of litter from Bread and Cheese Creek and North Point Road Including 14 shopping carts, 11 steel pipes, 8 tires, 4 rugs, 2 scooters, a mattress, an office chair, a 55 gallon drum, and an old fashioned hair dryer (the type you sit under). Enough trash was pulled from the creek to completely fill a forty yard dumpster! Additionally 1.25 tons of metal were pulled from the creek and will be recycled with the money going toward helping to pay for our next cleanup. All food left over will be donated to Rita’s Table a local food kitchen dedicated to helping feed the needy of Dundalk.
Our cleanup was run as part of Project Clean Stream under the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay along with American Rivers, and Trash Free Maryland. Thank you INCREDIBLE volunteers! This was our largest turn out yet! YOU are the reason we are so successful and your belief in our community and the environment is what keeps us going! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! We truly could not do it without you! Look at the huge difference you helped to make!
