Assembled with all salvaged materials with the exception of a few screws, a quart of paint and a package of "damaged" shingles that I got for $5 at Lowes. We'll toss in straw and of course an electric bed warmer.
153/365. It was SO FUCKING HOT OUT this morning for garden work — cleanout and planting garlic and shallots and starting the daffodils. Then Rummikub lunch, a Just Cross Stitch, and Thanksgiving corn car puzzle, which was the perfect quick nibble. Then a delightful afternoon of Stardew -- we're getting SO CLOSE to the return scepter!! Much forward progress was made on Thursday Murder Sweater, and S started the clown snowman cross-stitch. Dinner was our first winter sausage-sauce spaghetti, and then Boomer opened her birthday presents -- HUGE Christmas Liberty puzzle! Gallon of syrup! Adorable HJ and Hegle ornaments! -- and we had cake and read aloud from the new Christmas Poirot. The roller coaster is in full slide, baby!

There was a bit of random trash under the leaves, like the bit of fabric there on the shelf from a baby stroller. I want to clean these shelves out and make some better racks for this area.
Construction of a soil cell system for urban tree growth and underground stormwater storage.
Vel Phillips Plaza, an urban public park under construction in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The particular system being installed is GreenBlue Urban's RootSpace system, which uses interlocking black polypropylene pieces that are hand-assembled, and backfilled with soil.
Other items of note:
The entire area is underlain with a flexible black rubber waterproof membrane. The project spec book indicates it is a 45 mil EPDM flexible rubber membrance. Rolls/sections are overlapped and bonded together using adhesives to form a continuous waterproof sheet.
On top of the waterproof membrance, a layer of open-graded stone has been laid for drainage. According to the spec book, the stone consists primarily of 3/4" to 1" angular stone, probably an AASHTO #57 aggregate mix but it could be a similar gradation (#56, #6, #67 or #68). The aggregate mix does not have sand or very fine gravel.
A perforated pipe underdrain system is placed within the underlying stone layer for drainage; you can see some of the horizontal pipes and vertical cleanouts in the right side of the picture. The horizontal pipe is 6-inch diameter PVC pipe; spec book indicates it is type PSM pipe meeting ASTM standard D3034 with wall thickness class SDR 35.
The GreenBlue Urban plastic units are being placed and assembled by hand on top of the stone drainage layer. Later they will be backfilled with soil.
