Shortly after shooting the lighthouse posted before this, and after the sun had set, I was shooting some long exposures on the water and looked up and saw this amazing sky. It only lasted a few minutes but it was one of the best I've ever seen.

It always makes my day when I see Mr Clark sitting near his urban garden. All those flowers behind him are his. He always has something nice to say and when I asked if I could take his photo he quickly said yes.

Black-tailed Deer (Odocoileus hemionus columbianus)
"The black-tailed deer is one of nine subspecies of the mule deer. It was first recorded by the Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1804-06.
Black-tailed deer live in the temperate coniferous forests along the Pacific coast. These forests are characterized by cool temperatures and lots of rain, but an overall mild climate. Black-tailed deer do not therefore migrate in response to seasonal changes, unlike some of the other mule deer subspecies. Instead, black-tailed deer often spend their entire life in the same general area.
Black-tailed deer can be distinguished from mule deer by their larger tail, the back of which is completely covered with black or dark brown hairs. Mule deer have smaller tails in which only the tip is covered with black hairs. Black-tailed deer are generally smaller than mule deer."

This is the 3 to 4 inches received overnight with wind gusts over 40 mph. The heavier snowfall was north and east of us into Minnesota.
Their appearance is "ghost like" leaning every direction, with the snow coating. Even some suborn leaves that just refuse to fall into the wind . . .

I got great views of this species in the Santa Fe area of New Mexico. It's always nice to see nutcrackers well, as they can be a somewhat difficult to get close to unless they are acclimated to humans. In this case, they were coming to a feeder and some peanuts we put out for them.

A Western Grebe (on the left) and a Clark's Grebe were in a territorial fight. They fought up and down the water for quite a while. In the end, none appeared to be a winner, they paddled away in different directions.
These two species can be either friends or foes. Many times they are paired and raise a family together.
Point Clark Lighthouse is located on Point Clark. The lighthouse warns sailors of the shoal 2 miles (3.2 km) off the Lake Huron coast. The lighthouse is 110 feet (34 m) tall, made of limestone brought from Inverhuron by barge. Construction of the lighthouse started in 1857. There are 114 steps from the bottom to the lantern room. The 12 sided cast iron lantern was first lit on April 1, 1859 and is 87 feet (27 m) from the base of the tower. The Point Clark lighthouse was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1966, the first Ontario lighthouse to be so designated. The lighthouse was built by John Brown in the well-known series of the six Imperial Towers. To help build the lighthouse, several French builders were used. The light was first automated in 1924, but as a result of the poor quality of the light the original second-order fresnel lens was reinstalled. In 1963 the fresnel lens was automated. Its light characteristic is a single white flash every ten seconds, emitted at a focal plane height of 93 feet (28 m). The lighthouse is owned by Parks Canada. The lightkeeper's house is now a museum operated by the Township of Huron-Kinloss and tourists can tour the lightkeeper's home and the lighthouse from mid June to Labour Day. (Wikipedia)

The nutcrackers (Nucifraga) are a genus of four species of passerine bird, in the family Corvidae, related to the jays and crows.
The genus Nucifraga was introduced by the French zoologist Mathurin Jacques Brisson in 1760 with the northern nutcracker (Nucifraga caryocatactes) as the type species. The genus name is a Neo-Latin translation of an old German name Nussbrecher, "nut-breaker".

Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!
So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

Continuing my set of waterfowl images with this Clark's Grebe. This grebe species looks very similar to its close cousin, Western Grebe. Tomorrow I'll post a Western Grebe for comparison and a tip on the easy way to tell the two species apart.
New BNSF EMD SD70ACe No. 8595 leads a westbound coal train over the Clark Fork between Thompson Falls and Belknap, Montana, on October 1, 2014.
Five elephant-style Delaware & Hudson EMD’s and a contrarian Conrail B23-7 lead a northbound D&H train through Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania. The front of the train has just crested the heavy grade out of Scranton, and will have an easier time the rest of the way to Binghamton. The bridge in the background is the final one on the Pennsylvania Turnpike’s Northeast Extension.
The Clark’s Nutcracker, found in the mountains of western North America, is a favourite species of mine, both for its connection with the high country and for its intelligence as reflected in its amazing spatial recall of the locations where it has cached food.
These birds have a sublingual pouch (under the tongue) where they store food, such as the seeds of Whitebark Pine, and then place it in holes and other crannies to which they return with high accuracy. This ability enables them to have their young earlier in the year when food would otherwise be scarce, giving their offspring more time to “learn the ropes” and thus granting them better odds in the survival sweepstakes. {The unretrieved seeds also help the birds since they can germinate and perpetuate the habitat they need.}
The common name of this Corvid comes from a co-leader of the Lewis and Clark Expedition to the western USA in the early 1800s, which was the first to describe the species. (The expedition also described the Lewis’s Woodpecker: www.flickr.com/photos/luminouscompositions/50731325353/in...)
The Clark’s Nutcracker in this photograph was seen in the Canadian Rockies at Lake Louise, which lies in Banff National Park in the province of Alberta.
All in all, the Clark’s Nutcracker is an impressive bird — including that long, powerful bill. It gives distinctive raspy calls, and in flight shows flashes of white in the wings and the tail.
