I had the feeling recently (yet again) that I had seen every vintage car possible in San Francisco, then headed out late Sunday afternoon to be proven wrong. This one has a badge on the rear from Henri Chapron, and dealer markings that show it came from "Citroën-DS-Manufaktur" in Germany. I went by the next morning and found the owner putting new license plates on the car, so I think this is a very, very fresh import. It has really nice purple(!) leather seats.
(The hand lettered sign in the apartment window is a very San Francisco bonus, in my opinion, and a sentiment with which I agree).
The Citroen H van was launched in 1947 using the Traction Avant running gear and 1911cc engine. Although it was never officially imported several have been imported privately and are popular with market traders. This one, outside the Bedford Arms in Chenies has been converted to electric

A car from a time when Citroën still was one of the most creative carmakers worldwide and cars weren't an indistinguishable mass.
The Méhari never got approval for Germany. But in Bretagne, I still saw one or two of them each day.
Another one. I need to check the plates to make sure I'm not repeating the same ones.....

This series of Citroën cars, the DS were in production between 1955 and 1975. One of the interpretations of the DS abbreviation is a reference to the French word "déesse" which means 'goddess' in English.
And this car is a goddess indeed, one of the ultimate points in the history of car design. The copy seen above was spotted in the downtown of Budapest, with a Hungarian old-timer registry plate number, and since it bears the "D Super 5" sign on its rear, the model was manufactured some time between 1970-75, with a 5-speed gearbox. -- Besides the incomparably beautiful outfit, the car also utilized or introduced a plenty of technical innovations of the era.
