Chupa Chups is een Spaans lollymerk, dat in 1958 is opgericht door de zakenman Enric Bernat[1], maar sinds 2006 is het merk in handen van de Italiaans-Nederlandse snoepfabrikant Perfetti Van Melle.[2] De naam van het merk is afgeleid van chupar, het Spaanse woord voor zuigen.
Het logo is in 1969 ontworpen door de Spaanse surrealist Salvador Dalí.[3] De eerste slogan van het merk was "És rodó i dura molt, Chupa Chups" dat, vertaald uit het Catalaans, "het is rond en langdurend" betekent.

The chupa-chupa is native to the Amazon rainforests in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and up into Central Amerika. Theses trees can grow up to 45m (147ft) and they are semi-deciduous, meaning that they lose their foliage when the new growth begins (as opposed to proper evergreens, which keep their foliage for multiple seasons). The chupa-chupa bears orange-yellow fruit which is usually eaten out of hand, but is succulent enough that it can be juiced.
The chupa-chupa is one of those genuses which has varying names depending on who classified it. It is found both as Matisia and Quararibea cordata. Either classification puts it in the Malvaceae family, the mallows.
