Medium-sized, rather chunky parrot of humid tropical lowlands. Found in rainforest and edge, where easily overlooked in the canopy, feeding quietly on fruits. Most often seen in fast direct flight, low over the canopy in pairs or small groups. In flight, armpits show brilliant red, but often birds are flying too fast to see this. On perched birds, note the brown head (small red ear patch is rarely visible), pale spectacles, and very pale bill.

Pied-billed Grebes are small, chunky swimming birds. They have compact bodies and slender necks, with relatively large, blocky heads and short, thick bills.
They have virtually no tail.These are brown birds, slightly darker above and more tawny-brown on the underparts. During spring and summer, the crown and nape are dark and the throat is black. While breeding, the bill is whitish with a black band (“pied’), but otherwise is yellow-brown. Juveniles have striped faces.Pied-billed Grebes can adjust their buoyancy and often use this ability to float with just the upper half of the head above the water. They catch small fish and invertebrates by diving or simply slowly submerging. They build floating nests of cattails, grasses, and other vegetation.
Finally we are getting closer to these very weary birds who at the sight of man vanish.

Boisduval's Autumn Moth (Oenosandra boisduvalii) larva (late instar)
Until today I had not heard of this moth/caterpillar, let alone seen one. Spotted on the back of a leaf from our Loquat tree that was laying on the ground. I would love to see the moth, male and female are both great looking moths, you can see images of them here www.natureofgippsland.org/mothing/2020/11/

A beach is not only a sweep of sand, with shells of sea creatures in, but also as the greatest pleasure of the waves to bring the stones to the beach and then only try to get them back into the sea!
One thing that I did not notice as I walked around the edges of the harbour, it was very rockery, with plenty of big chunky rocks and hardly any sand on it.

It's time ! Our pretty Rookie got her mane groomed. She have a really fluffy one and as the weather is getting warm, she have a lot of sweat on her neck when we ride her. To make her more comfortable, we decided to knot her mane for the night, after a nice refreshing shower. We will release her mane in the morning and do it again right before the ride.

The wash around one of the foreshore rocks at Boat Harbour, NW Tasmania.
Family had a shack here in the 60s. Saw my first actual live fish underwater just in front of the outer reef.

Sitka, Alaska, has an educational, non-profit bear rescue centre called Fortress of the Bear. This is a collage of 4 Brown bears from the sanctuary, rescued as orphan cubs, looking well fed from donations from local grocery stores and fishers.

Candid street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. It looks like his girlfriend, or mother, has been busy with the knitting needles - or maybe he has. I just loved the shot with those chunky knit textures. Hoping that you are all having a great weekend and have survived 'Panic Saturday'!
I was profusely stirring creamy thick and delicious porchini risotto, partially drooling over the pot and partially listing to the storm Barney sending its greetings from the outside.
I couldn't resist the temptation and I had to cheekily peek out the window.
They there were. My favorite clouds kissing me with chunky warm hello.
I had to greet them with a proper welcome. I took out my fancy camera and got clicking.
Result - I burnt my porchini risotto.
However I felt thoroughly satisfied filling myself up through other senses.
From the contemplation of the little people - isn't life full of gifts, beauty, magic and miracles, if you are willing to "see" it?

We made the decision to scrap our old deep fat fryer when we moved house. It was hard to clean & disposing of the waste oil responsibly wasn't easy. So oven chips are the way forward - much healthier (well OK a bit healthier). We only indulge once a week often with a nice juicy steak.
I kept these 3 back for the photo-shoot then I shared them with our 2 dogs. Half a chip each for the dogs & 2 chips for me, good job dogs can't count :)
