It's Fat Bear Week in Katmai National Park. That is not where I photographed this chunky bear, but I think they could compete.
Midge (genus Coelopnia) female
I don't see a lot of of these Midges. This one was resting on a leaf of the Jade Plant today.
Happy Wing Wednesday!
Unique, chunky finch. Note the massive bill (steely gray in summer, pinkish in winter) and blue-gray hindneck, like a shawl on an orangey head. Broad white tail tip and white wing band show mainly in flight. Despite distinctive appearance, shy and easily overlooked. Favors mixed and deciduous mature woodland, especially with beech, oak, and hornbeam, where tends to feed and perch quietly, high in the canopy. Also feeds on the ground in autumn and winter, sometimes forming single-species flocks. Gives high-pitched “tsik!” and lower ticking calls.
Boisduval's Autumn Moth (Oenosandra boisduvalii) larva (late instar)
Until today I had not heard of this moth/caterpillar, let alone seen one. Spotted on the back of a leaf from our Loquat tree that was laying on the ground. I would love to see the moth, male and female are both great looking moths, you can see images of them here www.natureofgippsland.org/mothing/2020/11/

It's time ! Our pretty Rookie got her mane groomed. She have a really fluffy one and as the weather is getting warm, she have a lot of sweat on her neck when we ride her. To make her more comfortable, we decided to knot her mane for the night, after a nice refreshing shower. We will release her mane in the morning and do it again right before the ride.

Happy Fly Day Friday!
The wash around one of the foreshore rocks at Boat Harbour, NW Tasmania.
Family had a shack here in the 60s. Saw my first actual live fish underwater just in front of the outer reef.

Bracelet bought from a second hand store some years ago. My intention was to use the triangular beads for a project. One of those projects I never got around to doing. Perhaps I'll just restring it.
I absolutely adore Casey's chunky little legs! She's been a bit poorly the last couple of days so it's been nice to see her more herself and getting up to no good again.
This isn't quite how planned, I really wanted her to hold the teddy but she wouldn't cooperate! Might have a go at this shot again some other time, I still like it though :)
I can't decide if I prefer this edit or one with a lens flare, what do you think?

Sitka, Alaska, has an educational, non-profit bear rescue centre called Fortress of the Bear. This is a collage of 4 Brown bears from the sanctuary, rescued as orphan cubs, looking well fed from donations from local grocery stores and fishers.

Close-up candid street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. The connection of personal mood and the atmosphere of a chill autumnal day coming through here. Enjoy full screen and thank you for your support and comments, they are always appreciated.
I found this impressive and chunky little boy sheltered under a limestone slab right on the edge of this coastal cliff overlooking the turquoise sea at Marion Bay on the lower Yorke Peninsula in South Australia. He was in amazing condition at the end of the season and had obviously been stocking up the internal pantry for the pending months of cool weather. He was a welcome find too, given that the species typically occupies shallow burrows they've excavated amongst shrubs on exposed and well-drained, sandy slopes. His colors were surprisingly bright too, considering it was right on winters doorstep. I witnessed a sizeable pod of dolphins cruising past just offshore while I was taking his pic before carefully returning him to his beach house. A magic moment in a special place.
Painted Dragon (Ctenophorus pictus). Wide angle portrait taken on a Canon 5D IV DSLR, EF mount Laowa 15/4 1:1 macro lens and lit with a dash of fill-flash.
Chunky seabird, the shape of a football. Black above and white below with pearly face and thick multicolored bill. Orange legs and feet. Nonbreeding and young birds show darker face and duller bill. In breeding season, rarely seen far from breeding colonies on rocky islands and cliffs in the North Atlantic. Winters on open ocean, almost never seen from land.

Candid street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. It looks like his girlfriend, or mother, has been busy with the knitting needles - or maybe he has. I just loved the shot with those chunky knit textures. Hoping that you are all having a great weekend and have survived 'Panic Saturday'!
Chunky tanager found in Andean cloud forests from Colombia to Bolivia mostly from around 1,200–2,500m.
This individual was hanging around the grounds (probably hoping someone would put some more fruit out!) of Refugio Paz de las Aves near Mindo (Pichincha/Ecuador).
We made the decision to scrap our old deep fat fryer when we moved house. It was hard to clean & disposing of the waste oil responsibly wasn't easy. So oven chips are the way forward - much healthier (well OK a bit healthier). We only indulge once a week often with a nice juicy steak.
I kept these 3 back for the photo-shoot then I shared them with our 2 dogs. Half a chip each for the dogs & 2 chips for me, good job dogs can't count :)
