Hellevoetsluis: Christmas event
Lichtjesavond Hellevoetsluis is an annual event that is held in December in the historic city center of Hellevoetsluis. The event is organized by the Alive in de Vesting foundation.
During Lichtjesavond, the streets of the fortress are illuminated with thousands of lights and Christmas decorations. There are also various activities for young and old, such as a lantern parade, a Christmas market and a performance by a Christmas choir.
Lichtjesavond Hellevoetsluis is a cozy and atmospheric way to celebrate the run-up to Christmas. The event is free and attracts many visitors.

Here’s a unique Southern California Christmas experience, outdoor ice skating while overlooking the Pacific Ocean with the sun setting.

I want to thank all of you guys for your favorites, views and comments on my photostream this past year, it really does mean a lot to me. Thank you for coming along with me on my photographic journey throughout the world and here in my hometown of San Diego.
The beautiful city of Coronado is one of the most beautiful cities in San Diego, if not Southern California. It is home to family friendly beaches, the Hotel del Coronado and to the North Island Naval Air Station. Coronado has more retired admirals than any other city in the country.
Although most people call it an island, it is technically a peninsular, since it is connected to Imperial Beach. Originally named by Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo in 1542 as the "crowned one," (Coronado is Spanish for "crowned") Coronado wears her crown as Empress of San Diego bay.
The Hotel del Coronado is listed as a National Historic Landmark and has been the choice of 14 U.S. Presidents and numerous celebrities.
The "Del," as locals commonly know it, is the largest wooden oceanside hotel on the West Coast.
There’s also a haunted side of the Del. Kate Morgan checked into the resort on November 25,1892 and never checked out. Reports of ghostly happenings have been circulating at The Del ever since, all thought to be connected to the death of this beautiful young woman. The ghost of Kate Morgan is said to be residing in Room 3312.
Hollywood has been making movies at The Del for more than a century (The first movie shot at the hotel was in 1901.) In 1958, The Del was the backdrop for the comedy classic, “Some Like it Hot,” starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon.
The Del is spectacular to photograph anytime of the year, but in December the entire hotel is adorned with Christmas lights. In addition, the hotel sponsors special events such as ice skating on its oceanfront Windsor Lawn. All this makes for beautiful photographs to add to this special time of the year.

I originally wasn't that thrilled with the man coming into the frame, but then I figured why not incorporate him into the shot. The light near his head is his mobile phone taking a picture.
As compared to yesterday's post looking the other direction, this shot gives you the actual frontal view of the Capitol Christmas Tree.
I'm not 100% satisfied with the processing on this one, but I've tinkered with it long enough...

Taken from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol looking back towards the Washington Monument. The colorful bokeh lights of course are from the Capitol Christmas Tree.
As far as Christmas Trees go, it's almost ridiculous how much better looking the Capitol Tree is as compared to the National Tree over by the White House. The National Tree is a pretty poor looking specimen (at least this year anyways).

Celebrate the 25th Annual Holiday Lighting in Central Park.
After missing out last year, this is a must-do event for families! See the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center light up with holiday lights and take part in a number of seasonal festivities including: singing carols, watching ice carving demonstrations and enjoying treats. You can expect to see Santa and have a chance to take photos with your own camera. The evening concludes with a flotilla of illuminated trees on the Harlem Meer.

The Charles A. Dana Discovery Center holds a multitude of educational workshops throughout the year and a Catch & Release fishing program for youths.
The Charles A. Dana Discovery Center was opened in 1993 as one of the park's main visitor centers. Named after Charles A. Dana, former editor of the New York Tribune and mediator between General Grand and Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War, the Discovery Center holds a multitude of educational workshops throughout the year.
In addition to hosting environmental programs for children, the Discovery Center also teaches kids about wildlife firsthand.
The Catch and Release fishing program at the Harlem Meer includes complimentary instruction, poles, and bait. This activity is primarily geared toward children ages 5 to 15.

The 20th annual Charles Dickens Festival
The Dickens Festival is a celebration of the author of A Christmas Carol, featuring the Village of Port Jefferson magically transformed into the Dickensian era with streets filled with roaming characters such as Father Christmas, Dickens Mayor, Scrooge, the Town Crier and the beloved chimney sweeps.
The 20th Annual Dickens Festival concludes with a Parade of Puppets and ceremony at Village Hall on Sunday evening.
Charles John Huffam Dickens an English writer and social critic born in 1812 in Landport, Portsmouth, Hampshire, England, regarded as the greatest novelist of the Victorian period, Dickens wrote A Christmas Carol in 1843.
The Victorian era of British history was the period of Queen Victoria's reign from 1837 till 1901. It was a long period of peace, prosperity, refined sensibilities and national self-confidence for Britain.
