Chanced upon this fox eating in a dark corner. Decided to get as close as I could to him, I only had my 50mm lens with me. Also decided to shoot from very low down, to be at his level and include an interesting perspective of the street. I moved slowly and kept small and low. He was watching me but did not run.

I suddenly saw yellow approaching yellow, knew it was a great opportunity. Fired off four shots, decided this was the best.
The last 4 VWs in Brentford's batch never received refurbishments when the rest were done and are starting to look a bit pink. VW1072 has recently received a new blind set allowing it to work the 81/306 as needed. Its pictured in Chiswick High Road as it heads for White City

Well here it is - my number one photo! I have contrived it slightly to reach 2,000 older and vintage photos when posting this as well as 7,500 of garages overall. I also seem to have done so on St George's Day which wasn't planned! I am also on the verge of reaching 5 million hits to my page. I can't thank you all enough for all the interest help and support you have all shown over the last seven years.
This photo for me is truly incredible combining amazing Art Deco architecture with a rare 1970's brand of petrol and some other lovely features too. I have been almost scared to post it knowing that after doing so I might never have anything quite so amazing left to post!
Sky petrol was a cut price discounter with an interesting if relatively brief history and rather than writing a summary of it here I'll just link to Dan Lockton's fantastic old Sky advert below first comment.
It's a massive shame that these fine premises no longer exist - in its heyday this would have been a magnificent sight. It was clearly previously a BMW dealer as we can see that logo in reverse behind the M.A.N logo here. There's a touch of Abbey Road in this photo too with the zebra crossing in the foreground. It's the long hot summer of 1976, petrol is 74.5 pence a gallon and it appears to be 8.25am if the clock is right and I've read it correctly! I may be wrong but it seems rather unusual in this era for the decimal to be used in the petrol price advertised - normally fractions were still used in these days so that might be a slightly progressive move from Sky petrol. I only ever saw one Sky outlet in the flesh as it were and that was on Cambridge Heath Road in Bethnal Green and even then only out of the window of the train I was on from London Liverpool Street up to Cambridge. There must have been a fair few around London in this era though.
As for the wonderful building here - it was demolished and Harvey Nicholls currently operates from an ugly generic office block that took its place - in my opinion an absolute disgrace as I love Art Deco architecture! From the same view today we can see the zebra crossing moved just up the road a little but at least the trees have survived.
Later on, as one might have expected with Elf buying out the Sky brand, it was an Elf branded site as you can see way way down in the comments below.

RM2116 seen in its 1933 livery, as painted for LT's golden jubilee in 1983, and is indeed photographed on Chiswick High Road in conjunction with a jubilee event at Chicwick Works.
Withdrawn less than a year later in May 1984, the bus went straight into preservation and has retained this livery ever since.
New in December 1964, it managed just shy of twenty years service with LT, and has spent almost double that in preservation!
And I hope you lot don't get Indigestion, Heartburn or Ulcers

The photo will have been taken near to the time of my previous posting.
Green between 1956 – 1957. Red between 1957 -1959 forward. Converted to production shape in 1964.
RM 2 was the second AEC prototype Routemasters. Here with it's original shape. More information in Ian's Bus Stop RM2.
The bus was converted and looked like the production model for it's working life, and has more recently been restored back, in preservation, to the original and in green livery - see photo in comments. Spent most of it's working life as a trainer.

London United route E3: Chiswick, Edensor Road - Greenford Broadway
Approaching Chiswick Police Station (HH)
London United today gained route E3 from Stamford Brook (V), having won it from Metroline West: Greenford (G). Heavy traffic in Chiswick is possibly the cause for this bus' curtailment to Acton (Horn Lane). Although the driver had a bit of a gesticulated scuffle with the driver in front amid the traffic, that did not stop him from giving the camera a little pose.

Here we see this garage branded Q8, it was previously an Ultramar branded site which you can see below. Q8 bought out Ultramar's downstream operations in the early 1990's so no surprise at all to see this place change in that way. Now it's all gone, replaced with hideous modern offices!

The summer of 1976 and Ultramar was by now a fairly familiar name in southern England and especially the south east. Chiswick High Road had a number of small garages along it and this one was probably the smallest of them all. It would later be re-branded as a Q8 site after Q8 bought out Ultramar's downstream operations in the UK and you can see it like that below. The same view today was very hard to locate but in the end I managed it by comparing the trees in the photo to those on the road in the present day! www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.4922142,-0.2778255,3a,75y,37.51...

Turnham Green is a public park situated on Chiswick High Road, Chiswick, London. It is separated in two by a small road. Christ Church (George Gilbert Scott, 1843) stands on the eastern half of the green. A war memorial stands on the eastern corner. On the south side is the old Chiswick Town Hall.
The green is the site of local community events, including a travelling fun fair and charity table-top sales. The Tabard Theatre is nearby.
The nearest London Underground station is Chiswick Park on the District Line. Ironically, the eponymous Turnham Green tube station is actually situated on Chiswick Common, some 1 km (0.6 mi) to the east. Turnham Green is also the terminus of London Buses route 27 (running from Chalk Farm) and route 440 (running from Stonebridge Park).
