Train of the Day

An abandoned hotel along the train tracks in the small town of Bald Knob, Arkansas. The hotel was built in 1910. According to the "Abandoned Arkansas" website, this was one of three hotels along Bald Knob's Skid Row. Back then, "'Skid Row' was a famous strip of bars, brothels, and boarding houses in the area around 1920 to about 1970...These hotels were notorious for prostitution and hide-outs for passing through criminals."
In anticipation of safe travel conditions, I just started booking arrangements this summer.
On one hand, I miss the excitement of a pleasant traveling experience. On the other hand, it was good to have unexpected sabbatical leave. On the other hand, I've lots of airline and hotel club credits to use so cost is negligible, but on the other, I'm much less tolerant of forced intimacy required in commercial travel.
Photos like this one certainly motivate me to get back on the road. This shot was taken at the beginning of a gathering of best friends not previously met!
