Charlemagne (aka Charlie), was the last of a series of five cats that ruled our house. We adopted him from the humane society and he lived with us for close to fifteen years before cancer claimed his life. Being the last, he was also the most photographed, even though he hated having his photo taken.
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. June 2005.
Little Charlie was so cute I felt he deserved his own post! Ilona discovered that he loves tiny rubber balls and here he is waiting for her to throw the little ball. She always has more than one on hand because he tends to get distracted and loses the balls in the grass! :)

For the Meet Cute theme today, I thought I'd take a picture of Charlie and his basket full of pansies
HSoS!
sanglante attaque contre Charlie Hebdo,
il n'y a pas de mot pour une telle horreur,
alors pensons aux victimes, Ã leurs familles
et proches
I have to slide in another one of Charlie in the loveseat. He was so "in the zone" for this photoshoot.
Charlie is nearly 10 years old now and starting to show his age, he is not so fast or nibble on his feet these days, but then again I suppose none of us are🤔
As always thank you for stopping by as your support is always very much appreciated.
Take care and have a wonderful weekend my flickr friends !!
Lunchtime Poetry Slam featuring Charlie Dark alongside Pasifika poets, Drew Harding and Monz Cheung (South Auckland Poets Collective), Ole Maiava, Courtney Meredith and Luisa Tora (Niu Waves Collective, Fiji) // Tuesday 4 May // Otara Town Centre Stage // Part of the 2010 Manukau Pacific Arts Summit
Charlie went in for his check up on Wednesday and after a blood test he was admitted to stay a few nights to receive fluids. The blood test showed his kidneys had gotten worse since his last check up and the phosphurs levels were high and most of the other markers had increased, indicating he was now in stage 4 of the disease.
The vets also picked up that his thyroid is now overactive, which would explain why he is ravenous but not gaining weight. This thyroid condition has now created a significant heart murmur.
Hopefully the thyroid medication, once working will help take the pressure of his heart and kidneys.
After the second day in hospital he was given another blood test and it showed the levels had come down . The fluids were working.
They did want him to stay another night but because he was so miserable they opted to allow him to go home.
It's the first time I have ever had a vet say, 'we need to consider his mental health and well being over anything else, I feel keeping him in we are only adding to unwanted stress to his system.'
I was there to collect him 5pm Friday and they walked him down the hallway on his harness and he was so happy to see me (and get home) he ran and jumped in my arms.
My vet couldn't believe the transformation in him .
Now he is home, I am keeping a close eye on him and monitoring his diet and keeping up his meds.
I am just happy he is home and he is happy to be home.

Thank YOU A. For those ultra cute helmets! n__n
Charlie is the cat of our daughter and our son-in-law. Met him this evening.
Heute haben wir Charlie besucht.
Managed to get down the coast for the sunrise. The tide seemed very high this morning, could not get on to the beach.
I loved photographing these teeny, tiny flowers! I used my trusty and faithful 40mm macro lens. One of the first things that I thought of for a title for this image, was good ole Charlie Brown and his Christmas tree.
This afternoon we met Charlie, the cat of our daughter. Later more visitors came and Charlie disappeared;-)
I read that after the first Charlie Chaplin movie came out, countless people started walking like Charlie.
This is part of the Boston transit system that runs both under and overground.
Some of you may be familiar with the song about it, Charlie on the MTA.
What's interesting is the back story.
If curious:
In 1949 a progressive mayoral candidate couldn't fund radio ads so he recruited some local folk musicians to write campaign songs and sing them thru a loudspeaker on a traveling truck.
For which they were fined.
One of his protests was the recent "exit fare" increase of a nickel if you rode past a certain distance, so fictional Charlie was born. The candidate lost and was later labeled a communist.
In 1959 a popular group called the Kingston Trio revived the song, changed the candidate's name and some of the lyrics, in fear that they too might be declared communist in the time of the McCarthy era.
So, we all came to know Charlie who didn't have "one more nickel" and was fated to ride the rails forever, and his wife to pass him a sandwich thru the open window. It swept not only Boston but the entire nation as far as Hawaii, and the transit authority was swamped with envelopes containing packaged sandwiches and nickels addressed to Charlie on the MTA. (hahaha...)
In 2004 the token system was replaced with an electronic card system and the current KT was invited to perform the song at the dedication ceremony, with attendees, including then Gov. Mitt Romney, singing the lyrics right along with them.
They had to come up with a name for the card, and so they did.
It's the CharlieCard.
(image in first comment box).
But his fate is still unknown.
If inclined, here's the original Kingston Trio singing the song.

Have a nice weekend.
Put an extra nickel in your pocket.
Charlie is the cat of our daughter and her husband. We met him at Wednesday. It took quite a long time until he recovered from teeth surgery but now he is fine again.
My sweetie, 8 year old Jack Russell "Charlie" with a nice big soft blanket in the recliner. Life is good!
Charlie had a blast visiting the farm yesterday, and checking out the goats and alpacas. I hope to see him again soon!
We went to our daughter, to her husband and to Charlie for a short visit today.
