I'm cutting my hair,

it's down to my arse,

and I have no use for tucking it in my pants.

I have mixed feelings,

any advice from long haired freaky people like me?

Change always passes, find joy each day! This female cardinal was so lovely, in my garden on Forsythia Hill in Charlottesville, Virginia

Taken by Jonathan Pui who said I dressed inappropriate in Tokyo...

I know, but change is necessary. Also, I have included my name up there because I have been happening upon my images on Pinterest - that are void of any credit or link - they are just google images ... which bothers me a bit. I like to assume the best in people - actually, I just prefer not to let what they do bother me but I don't want to be totally naive. I know this watermark can easily be photoshopped out by the simplest of minds but I hope it won't.

Srsly this time.

I'm a proud owner of a Nikon D3. That gives me chills just saying that. Now I know most will not believe me...especially after I pulled this prank AND especially after I emphatically declared here (in the tags) that I would never switch. But I can assure you that I'm being serious this time.

So I'm sure you are wondering why. The easy answer is I bumped my head and I forgot I'm a Canon lover. But the real reason...well there are a few. First I feel like I need a change. I wanted to upgrade. I've put some mileage on the thing and I don't want to risk having it die on me. That and the resale value on my Mark ii is dropping like crazy. Look it up and you will see what I'm talking about. It's only going to get worse in the near future when Canon releases their newer models.

So why Nikon? First, the two newer Canon models that I considered, I decided were not an option. Nothing against the 5D. I just don't think it's much of an upgrade from what I already have. Sure the video feature is cool...but I don't need it. The Mark III....well that's just too much out of my price range.

Those reasons are just part of it. When I played that prank, I have to admit...I was impressed. That was only the D300 too. The image quality of some of the pictures I took were impressive (to me anyways). But I had the Mark II and I wasnt about to sell that off for a D300 (no offense to D300 owners). But then a few months later, I met up with DisneyMike and I got to play with his D3. I never admitted it, but I was blown away. And seeing the images shot with the D3...so freaking good. And I'm not talking about the pictures themselves. I know it's the photographer and not the camera that takes a good picture. But that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the quality of the image. The images are sharp and crisp. So much more than what I get with my Mark II. And that is what pushed me to start thinking about it.

What pushed me over the edge? Nothing in particular. I just woke up the other day and thought...I think I need a change...and I need it now. I started by selling two of my high end lenses which covered half the camera. Listed them on Amazon and they sold within two days. And the rest I will get from selling my Mark II. I'm trying desperately to keep it. But if I can't find a way to cover the rest of the price of the D3, then I will sell it.

So there you have it. Let the ribbing begin! :)

Rolling the dice at Flickr, the new layout has certainly been attention-getting.

This is a new 3-D rendering of an older photo I shot at a local art gallery.

Jan 7/12 As a followup to my first shot...this year, I am going to try to give myself moments when I feel like a woman and not just a mommy 24/7. When I feel feminine instead of constantly in corduroys and jeans and mukluks and t-shirts with food all over them. A year I can step out for a bit from time to time and remember (or be reminded) that I am a woman: an independent, intelligent, sensual, hilarious, crazy, fun and spontaneous being.

Don't get me wrong. I LOVE being a mommy. It's the number one part of who I am and it brings out the best in me, but this year, I intend to reclaim some of the many other equally passion-filled sides of myself: the woman, the actor, the photographer, the writer, the singer, the storyteller, the daredevil, the baker, the bookworm, the music-lover, the film-fanatic, the tomboy, the daydreamer, the cailín, the feminist, the environmentalist, the athlete, the comedienne, the knitter, the chef, the nomad...the list is endless. Who knows what opportunities 2012 will unfold? Best to be optimistic and put one foot forward. Step into the light of it.

Well....things I hate. Credit cards to date.

They suck you in right when you begin

they promise miles or points when all the while

you pay interest so high. I can't afford to die.

I'll see the light one day but for now I will say

Banks do well maybe, because of people like me.

Change is never easy....but I am welcoming major change this month. Many of you know that I've been in the Antique business for about 18 years. I'm leaving Pink Salvage at the end of this month and going back to my old stomping grounds, Vintage Rabbit....where I was for many many years. Lots of physical challenges ahead this month, but who said change was easy? Here's to a great week ahead and lovely July for everyone~

The Best Time For New Beginnings Is Now.....

Congratulations America! We have a new President. President Barack Obama. Never have I been more proud to say I am an American than I am today!

This quote is one of my favorites. I realize that not everyone understands how to look at things differently. You don't "try" to look at them differently, you just do it! I thought of it when I was so annoyed with the flickr changes. I spent very little time checking things out before being annoyed, then was gone all day but once I came home, repeated that saying and looked at the changes as inevitable and a good thing--everything got better. Everything we love about flickr is still here. It only takes a few minutes to click on the new buttons to find it all! And the new look works much better on my tablet. Another of my favorite quotes is by Mary Englebreit "Don't look back, you're not going that way!"

When I find something new that I want to recall I am putting the steps on this photo to remind myself! Typing it helps me to remember. I do realize that some of the problems that occurred may have been due to connections or whatever. I didn't seem to have any of those.

“I . . . ask the Lord to give you every blessing and joy and to keep ever fresh and young your ‘child’s mind’ which is the only one worth having.” —Thomas Merton, The Hidden Ground of Love, 614

“Unless you change and become like children”—Jesus’ command in Matthew is quite clearly about a process of disruption and development. None of us like to change as it means breaking up what seems to be familiar and predictable—even if one is stuck in a place that is not particularly helpful or comfortable. There is always a resistance to interrupting what we usually do and who we usually see ourselves as; there is often apprehension of what a change might lead to. “Become” means to begin to be, to come into existence, to change and to grow, to develop into.

Another one from the vault and never processed … Back in Spring of 2015, the three (of four) Bando de Kvar (flickr.com/groups/2472126@N24/ ) members participated in an expedition to the wilds of Queen Street West in downtown Toronto, Ontario, to engage in some street photography. We were wandering along pointing cameras at various things when I spotted a sign in a shop window. The sign read ‘Change Is Good’. I decided to stand just at the edge of the sidewalk and pre-focused to a suitable distance and waited for someone to come by. As luck would have it, a woman jogger was passing by so I set up the framing to capture the sign and tripped the shutter as she entered the frame. Slow shutter (my mistake) rendered her as a blur, which, in retrospect, worked out well now that I had the distance of time to reassess the image dispassionately. The colour original was likely why I had not bothered with it back in the day. But my recent exploration of the works of notable street photographers gave me a different perspective so I opted to process it as B&W, which I rather like. - JW

This public installation is made from the last plastic straws at A&W before the chain switched over to paper straws to support zero waste and sustainable living. Visited this exhibit today in Toronto by Union Station. Very luck to have seen this as just a few hours after it was re-located.

Panic-embryo and I had a long talk last night about how frustrated we are by the negative reaction to video on flickr.

Ninety-second videos are hardly going to turn the place into youtube. And, yes, there will be a lot of low-quality crap- but there's a lot of photographs like that here too! Snapshots, pets, low-quality amateur wife porn... the point is, you don't have to watch it. Your quality contacts will still upload quality.

and this is a fantastic opportunity for us all to experiment and get even more creative with the visual arts... stop-motion, animation, installation art videos...

let's not be afraid of change.

...and please stop inviting me to those groups.

I chopped it all off and I'm very, very excited about the new do. I've actually had short-ish hair all my life and for the past two or three years I've been burdened with the curling and the wrapping and the styling. This morning I just shaped it with my hands a little and remembered why I absolutely love short hair.
