Chalco Hills Recreation Area is such an interesting place. A person can go there every day and see something new, or so it seems. Today, I ran into this gathering of Jake Turkeys following four hens. Apparently the hens had no interest! The Jakes acted like a bunch of sixth graders at a school dance, saw the hens, found them alluring, but had no idea what to do with them.

Took a walk alomg the nature trail today at Chalco Hills Recreation Area and came across this fellow digging snacks out of several dead trees.

I took a nice walk at Chalco Hills Recreation Area today, getting better, almost a mile and a half. By far my longest walk since surgery, I got some great photos.

This Eastern Meadowlark just sat and posed for about 20 photos from two angles.

Eagles having a mating ritual conversation, they were loud and vocal! Chalco Recreation Area, Chalco, Nebraska. This is a prelude to the previous picture on my page.

This is one of the two eagles who have been nesting near my home the past few years. It is alwasy good to see them coming back in the spring. Those talons are intimidating.

I never expected to catch this image while I was out yesterday.

Six inches of fresh snow at Lake Wehrspann made for a great day of watching deer at Chalco.

One of the perks of having to drive to Chalco from down south for a doctor's appointment is that the Omaha Sub is close by. As I was on my way home, the local was working the steel facility and getting ready to head west to Chalco to run around its train and head back to Gibson.

The question of the day was: Is 539 (the fakebonnet 4-axle GE that spent a bit on the Bayard) on today's local? No. No it wasn't. However, you could do a lot worse than a swoosh standard cab pair. The second had quite a bit of paint fade on the nose, so I elected to go enjoy lunch and head home rather than shoot him coming back east.

Ex Convento de la Virgen de la Asunción. De estilo dominico (1554-1562), en su fachada notarás a simple vista la escultura de la Virgen de la Asunción rodeada a sus pies por rostros de ángeles; mientras que en la cornisa de la ventana resalta su decoración en forma de gotas. Ya en el interior, te da la bienvenida un retablo neoclásico con la imagen de la Virgen de Guadalupe. No menos interesante resulta un retablo barroco en el muro derecho con imágenes bíblicas rodeadas por clásicas columnas salomónicas. El sagrario guarda dos interesantes obras: un retablo barroco con las mismas características del anterior y otro más que alude a un cristo de caña. Junto al templo, aún en pie se encuentra el claustro con su bella arquería en sus dos niveles, se compone por arcos rebajados labrados en piedra y decoración vegetal estilizada en el capitel de la columnas. Afortunadamente, todavía es posible observar restos de pinturas al fresco que mantienen un ambiente medieval.
