Torre Diana and Torre Libertad are two high rise buildings located at Paseo de la Reforma in the centre of Mexico City. Torre Diana (on the left), completed in 2016, is 158 metres tall. Torre Libertad a.k.a. Torre St. Regis Hotel, designed by César Pelli and completed in 2008, is 150 metres tall.

A view of the Petronas Twin Towers (designed by Cesar Pelli) from Kuala Lumpur Tower. They are currently the tallest twin towers in the world. To the right, the black building with the triangular structure is by world renowned architects Foster + Partners. The apartment building just in front of that (named The Troika) was also designed by the same firm.

As it was raining that day, I took my family up to the indoor observation deck. However, for serious photographers and nightscenes, I would recommend buying tickets for the outdoor deck so as to avoid reflections caused by the glazing.

Please no big or flashy awards! Sorry!

People like to complain about street construction — "Oh it's awful & I'll be glad when it's finished," they say to one another and to TV reporters, hundreds of times a day — but if it weren't for construction equipment the only things to look at on Marquette Avenue'd be the bottoms of conspicuously bland office towers and the entrances and exits of parking ramps.

The bldg @ the right is one of César Pelli's abominable creations and Jesus that wall's a depressing thing to have to walk past. I'd rather get hydraulic excavators and orange plastic mesh and Jersey barriers and cylindrical castle-topper turret-looking things, which are temporarily-above-ground manholes.

"According to Lao Tse, the reality of a hollow object is in the void and not in the walls that define it. He was speaking, of course, of spiritual realities. These are the realities also of the Petronas Towers. The power of the void is increased and made more explicit by the pedestrian bridge that ... with its supporting structure creates a portal to the sky ... a door to the infinite."

'I tried to express what I thought were the essences of Malaysia, its richness in culture and its extraordinary vision for the future. The building is rooted in tradition and about Malaysia's aspiration and ambition.'

~ Cesar Pelli, the main architect of Petronas Towers
