Golden hour, brief and rare,

To pause, to watch, to truly see,

The magic of life, so wild and free.

And as the sun slips out of view,

Night emerges, cloaked in dew.

I captured this partial lunar eclipse at 5:50 am in March 2025, just as the moon was about to dip below the horizon in the UK. I was really happy with how I managed to capture the Earth's umbral shadow slowly creeping across the Moon, as well as the reddish‐orange glow. Sadly, I didn't get to see the full eclipse, as that occurred below the horizon.

Siamo gli alberi della Piana del Cansiglio.

Ci ergiamo fieri sotto l'immenso cielo d'inverno, le nostre braccia tese verso l'infinito. Custodiamo segreti antichi, sussurrati dal vento tra le nostre chiome gelate.

Ogni stella sopra di noi è un compagno silenzioso, ogni notte un respiro condiviso con l'universo in un posto veramente freddo, alle volte, ma al quale siamo abituati.

Siamo le sentinelle della terra, radicati nella quiete della piana, il tempo scorre lieve come neve sulle nostre radici. Vediamo passare generazioni di esseri umani, ma noi siamo sempre qui, puntati verso le stelle.

PS: I più attenti noteranno un batuffolo di luce, a destra verso l'angolo in alto. E' la grande galassia di Andromeda, a 2 milioni di anni luce da noi..

I crateri Platone e Archimede, visibili in questa immagine, marcano il bordo del vasto Mare delle Piogge, distese che ricordano antichi mari di lava. In basso, i monti Appennini si stagliano come una catena possente, mentre la valle delle Alpi si snoda fra le montagne, un profondo solco scolpito da eventi cataclismatici del passato. Queste cicatrici sono oggi simboli di una bellezza ancestrale, testimoni immutabili della storia lunare. È lo stesso satellite che affascinava gli antichi sapienti, per i quali era simbolo di mistero e conoscenza celeste, e ancora oggi ci ispira con la sua incrollabile presenza e il suo fascino eterno.

While the moon and Venus were setting in the west (yesterday's upload), Mars appeared just above the horizon to the southeast. At first it was such a brilliant red that I wondered if it could be a manmade object. But it continued to rise into the night sky, and its red softened as the light passed through fewer atmospheric layers. Mars is currently enveloped in dust storms, which may be giving it an extra-reddish tinge. You can see it at the lower left in this shot.

Meanwhile, Jupiter sat higher, regally, in the southwest (to the right), and between them the stars of the Milky Way were flung across the southern sky. But wait, another visual treat also sits there: Saturn, standing out from the clouds of stars in the Milky Way. It isn't as bright as the other two planets, but you can find it.

Follow the road at the bottom of the frame to its vanishing point. Now look above the horizon and slightly to the left - about a quarter of the way from the horizon to the top of the frame. You can see two bright "stars", the left one higher. If you were to draw a shallow, convex arc between Mars and Jupiter it would pass through this area. The "star" to the left, the higher one, is the planet Saturn.

What a breathtaking sight on a clear summer night, four planets in one frame: Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, and Earth!
